You mean this article? (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1683034) Seems to me that it's more about Nomar, not A-Rod. And it's Gammons purely speculating.

That's the only one I could find, nothing concrete. I expect it to be done before Winter meetings in N.O. so Theo can talk about finding a new home for Nomah. We'll see.

Gammons is gonna be on WEEI soon to discuss. I think Texas knows the PR hit would be enormous.

This is effing great. Nomah won't resign now, and he'll be miserable this year.

But they have come this far already. Rodriguez wants to come here, Sox management wants him, Rangers ownership wants to dump the contract, even MLB wants A-Rod to play in a big market like Boston because he is such a marketable player.

Wish we could get some Ranger fan perspective on this.

If I was a Ranger fan, I'd pray this deal doesn't happen. Imagine losing Arod for Manny?

Yeah, but it also frees up money to buy pitching, and that's what they need. That'd be my take on it. You're also getting a guy that can hit.330+, 35+ HR and is capable of knocking in 120+ runs. Not a bad deal at all.

That's a tough one. Texas obviously does not have the revenue pouring in like Boston does, so being stuck with that A-Rod contract for 10 years hurts a lot. On one hand, you are strapped financially if you keep A-Rod, on the other hand you get stuck with Manny but get out of a huge contract a few years sooner if you make the trade. Seems to me that Texas's pitching will suck for a long time unless they find some money somewhere. I'd be really pissed at the Texas owner for putting the team in this position.

Has anyone thought that this could really be a good move for Manny? Texas does not have that media presence and pressure like Boston does. If Manny could just go back to playing ball like he did in Cleveland, he could be really happy there.

PissedPrincess

Manny will freakin broil down there. If Texas is out of it by July, expect Manny to pull a season-ending hammy. He'll only be happy as a Skank.

A lot of talk about who was going to protect A-Rod in the Sox lineup, but who the heck is going to protect Manny in Texas? Talk about a lineup taking a hit, Raffy and Juan Gone are out, they dealt Slimy Everett last summer, and now they could be without A-Rod.

According to Gammons on the TV just a short while ago, Nomar's going to wear Dodger blue next season ... If that's true, good luck getting much offense in return from LA.

Then again, Gammons is a loon.

All the Sox beat guys on EEI are NOW saying NO way AROD comes. They think the deal is completely shot.

They're saying there were too many obstacles. The Sox have given up. Now, they say Nomah will NOT resign here, and must be traded somewhere.

So, we will have lost Nomah, and will be stuck with Manny.

Boy did Theo and Company really EFF UP this time.

I can't believe we alienated Nomah, and now we can't get AROD.

What a joke.

i agree! why was nomah put in this kinda pressured position? i mean-the guy is freakin incredible! why would you want to trade a guy like him for a-rod AND and the same time lose manny? thats half the offense! so what if they woulda got more pitching-you need BOTH offense and ptiching to get all the way. it was terrible to put so much pressure on the fact the nomah MIGHT go elsewhere but now its sure-he's probably disgusted.

Calm down now. You are basing that on the speculation of some radio show hosts. A lot can happen in the next week with winter meetings coming up.

I think the reason this is taking so long as that we're talking about a quarter of a BILLION dollars between the two contracts, so they have a lot to iron out. It's not like we're talking about a couple of $10 million contracts. This is huge and is going to have tremendous downstream effects for both teams. It has to be handled very delicately.

Believe me, I can be as pessimistic as anyone, but I am not surprised this deal is taking a long time to sort out.

I find Bob's silence through all this most disturbing.

What a time for my manager to get the flu. Shes been out for the past 3 days. but I do hope she feels better soon. :D Ive been kinda busy here and there. My silence is not on purpose, HOWEVER, I still refuse to talk about A Rod. ;) BTW, Babs, go say hit to my cousin in the rookie forum. Hes not a sports fan, but hes crazy funny though. :D Dry humor, like mine and yours. ;) :clap2:

BTW, this would really reek, if we lose Nomar. Yeah, he didnt have a great post season, but he has excelled in the past post seasons. I believe, he will resign if we do not sign whats-his-face. I mean, dude is getting a house built here. :D

We're effin screwed. I know it. Texas wants pitching, and for us to pay part of Manny's salary. No way should we do this. This deal is dead. I said it first.:(

Nice message to send to our players. John Henry and his rants just guaranteed Tek, Nixon, and Lowe won't come back.

At least we have Schilling.

(I'll be very surprised if someone doesn't start screaming at me)

I was never excited about this deal in the first place, but if we lose Nomar because he was/feels alienated, God please help me, because I'm going to need it!

Just give Nomar and Pedro a contract already.

There's a STORY AT ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1681696) that is a couple of days old now ... But it reports the following:

"Garciaparra said the impression that he's not happy in Boston may come from a disappointed facial expression he sometimes wears when he and the team are not doing well."

Did Nomar actually say anything close to that on the WEEI radio program?

He said EXACTLY that. That his expressions are mistaken by people that he is unhappy. I believe Nomah loves playing in Boston. And I believe he hates having to deal with the media.

If this deal doesnt happen with A-Rod there is no way they should lose Nomar. One of the top 3 SS in baseball there is no way you can let a guy like that go. If it doesnt happen the Sox uppers have to go to him right away and say look we are trying to get rid of Man-Ram and your name came up with getting rid of him and we were looking at all our options and just tell him what was up and that there was no way that it was happening and we want to show you what you mean to this team and lets get a long team deal hammered out to show everyone what we mean to eachother.

Why dont the Sox look at getting Nomar resigned and trading Man-Ram to the Dodgers for LoDuca. Taking him you will get a team guy that will do anything to win and has a high BA but wont put up the HR that Man-Ram does. Give Man-Ram to the Dodgers they have a lot of free money now and if you can get a ok player for him than I would make that deal.

Dude, LA isn't gonna take Manny. No one will. We put him on waivers, remember?

Texas is the only team that would do it.

redsoxman
12-12-2003, 12:39 PM
Paul Lo Duca isn't good enough of a player to trade straight across for Manny. Throw in some pitching prospects as well, then sure, make the trade. But, I think we have a good catcher in Jason Varitek as it is already.

Plus, Princess summed it up nicely, too. LOL Nobody wants Manny, remember? Not even his beloved Yankees. :hmm:
