The Cubs still have a major hole in the bellpen. They still need to find a lefty specialist. Remlinger might as well be right-handed, so they really have no left-handed pitchers in the pen. Who should they go after? How much money should they spend?

There are several good lefties out there but may cost more than the Cubs are willing to spend:

Ricardo Rincon
Gabe White
Arthur Rhodes

There are some other less-talented, cheaper options:

Ron Villone
Kent Mercker
Glendon Rusch
Sterling Hitchcock

The sleeper could be Scott Sauerbeck, a lefty specialist who could be non-tendered by Boston and come to the Cubs at a cheaper price than someone like Rincon would, but he could be just as effective.

Thoughts?

Hendry has missed out on another of his free agents. Ricardo Rincon has re-signed with the A's. Goddamnit Jim. Enough with this effing passive approach. And the effing Trib company needs to stop being so damn stingy. We can spend as much as the Yankees if we wanted to, but we are going to just miss the top 10 in payroll again! I am sick of this!

Players Cubs have dropped the ball on so far:
A.J. Pierzinski
Scott Spiezio
Kenny Lofton
Ricardo Rincon
Todd Walker
Tony Graffanino

All players whom the Cubs apparently had interest in but will not sign. These arent even the big names. I wont even bring them up. They are being way to strick with the budget. One thing that gets me is the Trib company says they will increase the budget a few million dollars at the deadline to improve the team. Why can't we just use that money now instead of using it for two months worth of players?
