Ha ha, what were the Goobers thinking? Well, first I think they were glad to get rid of a serious headache. Plus, they'll have an extra $5+ mil over the next two seasons. Most importantly, they may be trying to develop a little depth and flexability with their pitching, while leaving some room to make a few more moves.
Jordan isn't going to make up for Sheffy's bat. Sheff's .920 OPS is over 100 points higher than Jordan's .806. It's wishful thinking to suppose that Karros, Beltre and Grudzie will pick up the slack.
But then, the Dodgers are not a finished product. They still need a closer, not to mention more offense. Perez is the Dodgers' seventh potential starter, assuming the teams signs Kazuhira Ishii. Four of those pitchers (Brown, Ashby, Nomo and Gagne) are righthanded. Three (Perez, Ishii and Daal) are lefthanded. And don't forget the gimpy Dreifort, who might contribute by the end of the season. Unless Odalis Perez comes out of the gate on fire, though, this trade could end up being awfully one-sided.
