Full article in the "Around the Horn" forum....

This makes the Braves the team to beat in the NL East, although I have the belief until someone beat them, that they were the team to beat regardless of Sheffield or not....
Sheff just makes them that much stronger....

Thanks James for posting this.....I had a very long day and came home and crashed last night......

Well look at it this way, at least Jordan won't be around this year to beat you guys.......But then again we still have Larry:biggrin: !!!!!

Great deal for the Braves.....Now the outfield is set and could be one of the most productive in baseball....Bad Deal because we lost Odalis Perez, who was looking like our #5 starter up until yesterday.....Oh Well We got SHEFFIELD!!!!!!!!

Shef missed some time with an injury if I am not mistaken.......He will hit near 50 and drive in 100+ easily.........He will be a big addition to the team......

Maybe similar stas last season but not for their careers....
Sheff has the ability to launch 40 + HR's at anytime and last year was tied for Jordan's career high in HR's....
Sheff IMO, is a better player....

The moves so far by the Braves and Mets will definitely spice up the NL East - I'm just glad Sheffy's out of the NL West - it's too bad he couldn't have switched leagues!

The only way he would have switched leagues was if he was given pinstripes, he made it pretty well known he wanted to go to a contender and the east coast, which left only 3 teams for him to go to........

And the Mets couldn't give up anything for him........

And for that, I am supremely happy. He has outstayed his welcome everywhere he's gone. The Dodgers couldn't wait to get rid of him. Neither could the Brewers. Especially after he started dogging it.

Nope. I never wanted him. You are welcome to him.

Get ready for the whining to commence. Talk about immature. Shef is nothing more than a stud hitter that acts like he's about 15 years old. The first couple of months should go well but after that watch out. Unless he grows up he will become a cancer on a team that has shown remarkable ability to handle adversity ala the Mouth from the South, Mr. Rocker himself. Give me a Jordan on a mission with his sacrifice and win it for the team attitude any time over the Sheffield way. Good luck, I fear you will need a lot of it in the future.:crying2:

This from a guy who has put up with him for what, 4-5 years? He epitomizes the image of the ballplayer with arrested development--always a 15 year old in actions and decisions! But, he sure can hit, so the teams keep on taking a chance on the possibility that they will be the one to "change" the guy. Oh, well, it's Bobby Cox' turn!:barf:

What is all this trash talking about Sheff for? Jordon for Sheff? The Dodgers got raped. Go ahead and compare the numbers - sheff has more power, better average, drives in more runs, his OBP and SLG destroy Jordan's. He strikes out less and walks more...he is basically better in EVERY single category. THREE straight years of 34+ HR's 100+ RBI's .300+ BA

His attitude problems in the past have not affected his production on the field and lets face it the Brave's organization isn't the debacle he had to deal with in Milwaukee or LA....ask Florida how they liked him. He will be fine in Atlanta and in my opinion is an MVP candidate for 2002

As for Jordan...before the beginning of last year the Braves couldnt give him and his over-inflated salary away. While he does hustle and I give him credit for that a look at the numbers reveals he is an absolutely average NL outfielder at best.

I certainly wish the Braves are successful. Give it a while, the honeymoon won't last.

Atlanta is one of the few places that the honeymoon will probably last....Cox doesn't run some Rupert Murdoch like ship, the man has his stuff in a row...and the players respect him.....Come on Tommy Lasorda was still in LA so would shef and there would be no problems.....You know it is all in the coach, and management normally don't get in the way in Atlanta...he might not be the GM but Bobby has more than his fair share in what goes.....
