OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland Athletics and radio station KFRC 610 AM have agreed to terms on a four-year contract to broadcast all 162 regular season and postseason games along with a minimum of 15 spring training games beginning with the 2002 season.
KFRC, which aired A's games for five seasons from 1994-98, will serve as the flagship station on the 22-station Oakland A's Radio Network. The games will also be carried on the A's website at oaklandathletics.com. For the last three seasons, A's games have been broadcasted on KABL 960 AM.
The A's will be responsible for the production aspects of all broadcasts and will also retain the rights to hire its broadcasters. The broadcasts will begin with a 45-minute pre-game show and conclude with a one-hour postgame talk show.
The Athletics broadcast team of Bill King, Ken Korach and Ray Fosse will remain intact for the 2002 season, while Robert Buan will return for his third season as host of the "Extra Innings" post-game show.
"The A's are looking forward to a long and successful partnership with KFRC and Infinity Broadcasting," said Ken Pries, the A's vice president, broadcasting and communications. "KFRC has a rich tradition of quality programming and its strong signal will enable our fans throughout the entire Bay Area and beyond to enjoy the excitement of A's baseball."
"I am very excited about our new relationship with the Oakland A's," said KFRC General Manager Ernest James. "The A's are one of the most exciting teams in all of baseball and we look forward to being a part of another postseason run not only this season, but for years to come."
KFRC AM/FM, San Francisco's exclusive "oldies" station, provides two of the Bay Area's strongest frequencies which reaches every zip code in the nine-county San Francisco metro area. The station's signal also clearly reaches beyond Santa Rosa in the north and beyond Monterey in the south, as well as into portions of the San Joaquin Valley. KFRC's 610 AM signal is 5,000 watts while it's FM signal is 40,000 watts.
Tickets for A's Spring Training home games at Phoenix Municipal Stadium are currently on sale through the team's website -- OaklandAthletics.com -- and at tickets.com. Tickets may also be purchased by phoning (925) 762-2277 or (800) 225-2277. Fans may purchase tickets at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium Box Office beginning on Friday, February 1. The A's open their Spring Training schedule on February 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers in Maryvale.
