FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The San Francisco Giants on Friday avoided salary arbitration with righthander Jay Witasick, signing the reliever to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed for Witasick, who made $800,000 last season.
Acquired in December from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder John Vander Wal, Witasick went a combined 8-2 with one save and a 3.30 ERA while pitching for New York and the San Diego Padres.
He enjoyed more success in the National League with the Padres, where he posted a 5-2 record with one save and a 1.86 ERA in 31 games before getting traded to New York on June 23.
