MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers on Friday avoided salary arbitration with righthander Chad Fox, signing the middle reliever to a one-year contract.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fox, 31, had a breakthrough season in 2001, posting a 5-2 record with a sparkling 1.89 ERA in 65 relief appearances.
Fox struck out 80 batters and allowed just 44 hits in 66 2/3 innings, successfully recovering from a pair of elbow surgeries on his pitching elbow in 1999 and 2000.
