DETROIT -- Jeff Weaver, the Detroit Tigers' opening-day starter last season, agreed Tuesday to $22 million, four-year contract.
The deal replaces a $2.35 million, one-year contract the team and Weaver agreed to on Friday.
"A four-year commitment is something we can build on as far as a relationship from the top all the way down to the players," Weaver said. "They got it done relatively quickly and easily. There was no bloodshed."
Weaver, 25, was a first-round pick of the Tigers in 1998 and has completed three years with the team, going 33-43 with a 4.57 ERA.
"In my mind, Jeff is one of the best young pitchers in the game," Detroit general manager Randy Smith said. "He's gotten better every single year, and he'll continue to go forward."
