Because alot of trades have been based on the previous rules, I think we should give them a try. Last year the top 5 made good free agent signings/ good draft picks that put them there. Every year there are players that break out and have huge season and rookies who come into the league and put up big numbers. No matter what the draft is going to be depleted of super stars. We'll get like 3 rounds and then it'll dip into baseball knowledge for prospects and roll players. Its not hard to improve your team and get solid keepers for those of you trying to revamp broken teams or who missed the draft...
Look at my team now. I'd say since the middle of last season I've really improved my team. I was around last place most of last season and pulled up in the last couple months to finish 11th. Here's what my starting roster was (I was having internet troubles and some of the picks were made auto why others were manual...
C- Todd Hundley
1B- Sean Casey
2B- Chuck Knoblauch
3B- Alfonso Soriano
SS- Barry Larkin
OF- Jermaine Dye
OF- Steve Finley
OF- (Scrub)
UTIL- Jimmy Rollins
Bench- a couple scrubs
SP- Curt Schilling
SP- Mike Mussina
SP- Livan Hernandez
RP- Jorge Padilla
RP- Rich Garces
P- Tim Wakefield
P Similar to Padilla except worse
P Similar to Padilla except worse
P Similar to Padilla except worse
Dye and Finley sucked as well as Hundley and Larkin (what can you expect?) Livan Hernandez sucked and Knobby lost his job!
My only pluses were my rookies Rollins and Soriano (who can only do so much) and Schilling+ Mussina were great but with the rest of that pitching staff didn't do any good.
Look at my overhauled team. I'd say its pretty good w/ some luck I think i can compete. If you're not happy with your team, make some trades. Especially now when people are especially willing to trade.
In the future we'll adapt the rules. I think 30 days is too little as well for DL keepers, but I know that some people have given up alot to get players that qualify as DL and we can't take that back.
Mound Chargers, I don't think our league needs a complete overhaul as you have suggested, the essential rules are good, but we may have to adjust the keepers and such after this season if it doesn't work out.(I personally think it should work out fine, we may need a slight adjustment or 2)

only suggestions.........i could care less......i just want to have fun i posted what i posted to get something started for open discussion for next year......read alot of complaints but didn't see any modification.....oh well everyone i guess its not so bad.....the only concern i have is the unlimited dl players........
i don't even know the roster size, are there utility spots, what are the pitching settings.....
when u have 20 teams its not the 6 u protect u win with its the guys u draft to fill in your roster.........
again i started the thread so we could establish ideas for next year to enable us to get to a concensous.......
i don't have rookie its not important whether i have one.......
the fact i protect my dl guys free troubles me......we should beable to protect 1 dl or rookie as 7th man.....
this is all good shows everyone is concerned its going to make the league stronger

You seem to making alot of trades. Whydon't you see if someone will throw a rookie keeper into the deal. (Remember last year could have ben their 2nd year in the league as well.)
Hey, how do you think I feel?
I missed the entire draft last year and had to work with scraps!
Haha, but I've managed to make due ;)
I do believe it would be a great idea to form the league rules for the following year(s) and get a consensus on how the league should be operated. Additionally, we should establish some elements about this upcoming year, specifically how the league will go about battling collusion, ect.
I also don't believe it would be a bad idea to limit the amount of DL players allowed this season.. perhaps, we could even compromise.. allowing two or so. All I'm looking for is a fun and competitive league.. which presents all teams with a fair shot at competing.

I definitely agree we need to come up with a set of rules for next year. And I'd really like to see the rules for this year written down which I've asked for, but have yet to see.
Also, about dl players:
I do believe there have been too many trades to change this rule, but feel it must be changed for next year.
However, I dont see it as a problem to atleast put a limit to the number you can keep to be like 1 or 2. As it is now, some teams will be keeping up to 12 or 13 players which is a little much for a 20 team league.
So in conclusion: Here is my solution. I think we should take a vote on limiting the number of dl players for THIS SEASON. (Just so people are sure that thats what I'm talking about). For now we'd keep the 30 game rule in effect but limit teams to only be able to keep 2. That still allows teams to keep up to 9 players going into the draft. That seems fair to me.
Please put your input on limiting the number of DL players for this year as soon as possible.
This shouldn't effect too much trades that have been made as not too many teams have more than 2 really good dl players and if they do, more than likely they didnt trade for them or make strategically got them during the season.

ON BEHALF OF THE MEMBERS OF THE LEAGUE.........NATE THE COMMISH BUT SMELLY HAS ALL PAPER WORK, THE WRITTEN RULES........
FROM ALL THE EMAILS SINCE I JOINED
ROSTER SIZE IS ANY WHERE FROM 20 TO 24
IF IT IS 20 AND U MAKE A 1 FOR 3 DEAL U SHOULD HAVE TO DROP 2 FROM YOUR OFF SEASON ROSTER TO KEEP YOUR ROSTER AT THE LEAGUE LIMIT
THOSE PLAYERS GO BACK INTO THE DRAFT
STARTING POSITIONS
IS IT
1 CATCHER, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 - 3B, 1 - SS, 3 OF, 1 UT, 3 SP, 2 RP
LEAVING 6 RESERVE TO GET TO 20
THIS IS IMPORTANT SO WE KNOW WHERE TO SET OUR PRIORITIES FOR THE DRAFT
ITS OBVIOUS TO ME THAT YOUR STICK HANDLING IS PROOF THAT NO RULES EXIST...........TO THAT WHO CARES RIGHT NOW..........
ALL EVERYONE WANTS IS TO WORK TOWARDS NEXT YEAR.......EVERY TIME SOMEONE ASKS A REASONABLE AND A NEED TO KNOW QUESTION YOU PUT YOUR SKATES ON AND SKATE AROUND THE ISSUES.......
EVERYONE EMAIL ME YOUR IDEAS (send in exel spreadsheet form) FOR RULES FOR 2003. LETS LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED EVERY IDEA WILL GET VOTED ON. I WILL COMPILE THE RULES AND POST FOR A VOTE.
FROM WHAT I SEE ALL INVOLVED LOVE THE GAME AND ARE AND WILL BE ACTIVE.....

Drop it! Alright, your not gonna start a revolution. The last thing we need to do is let someone who wasn't around last year try and completely reshape the league. I told you when I gave you your roster that you had some work to do because the guy was inactive. Rather then whining and trying to get the rules better shaped to fit your team, why don't you suk it up and try and make your team better. You told me that you were up to the challenge. Is it to hard for you? You wanna change the rules so it fits your team? Thats tough sh*t. That's not the way we work in this league, its democracy the active owners did what they thought was best for the league. Let the sh*t go, because we don't need everyone b*tching and whining its not helping anything!

How many times do i have to state the rules? 16 of 20 teams we here last year and they know the rules and the other 4 teams including you received the rules when they e-mailed me.
There is a difference between asking a question about something and trying to start some kind of stupid revolution.
I'm not taking sides here... I don't see why anyone (on EITHER side) has to be mad....
For the rules........
Keepers you all know
I don't know if we were going to change the positions but last year the positions were......
C
1B
2B
3B
SS
OF
OF
OF
UTIL (any hitter)
SP
SP
SP
SP
RP
RP
P
P
P
Then we had 5 bench spots and 2 dl spots and no one told me they had plans of changing it this year
As far as trades we trusted the commish to judge if the trades were fair or not- if he thinks they were he passed them instantly. If anything at all looked the least bit skeptical he would leave it up for 48 hrs for people to vote if we really thought anything of it. I trust him and most all of us did and I don't see why that would that need to be changed.
Trade deadline I forget but I know someone else can
Thats the way it was last season and I was not notified of any change we were going to make for the next year.
I have more to say but will put it in a new thread.

In defense of the new guy, I never received the rules or was told the rules before, hence my asking for them on a daily basis...

Well, once everything is clarified and set, someone just PM me or email me and let me know....
Not trying to sound mad, it just really doesn't matter to me...I'll make due with whatever the rules are......I really have no opinion...I just wanna play......The rules will be the same for everyone so lets just play ball and get along:biggrin:

I also did not get a copy of the rules. I received my roster, where my team finished last year, and anything else. Maybe you thought you had sent it Bill, but I do not think I received a copy. Let me check again though ...

The problem is people think there are alot more rules then there actually are. All you can set is roster size, positions, games/ innings limit and scoring system. Everything else is preset by Yahoo!. But there isn't much more then that (Just keepers). What didn't I tell you? Maybe roster size but I was unsure and I gave an approximation.
