Who do we consider a rookie last year? How many atbats would they have to had in 2000 to still have been considered a rookie last year?

I dont want to single any team out, but the reason I'm asking this is because a team currently has Juan Pierre listed as there Rookie keeper. However, in 2000 he had 200 at bats. I just want to be sure we are all going by the same rules with this. Someone please clarify.

And if this rule was not voted on last year, I think we need to address this as a league and take a vote.

My understanding is that any player with no more than 2 years expierince would qualify. So if Pierre had 200 AB in 2000 and 400 this year, he would qualify.

Otherwise, the only rookies worth keeping would be....Ichiro, Pujols, Rollins and a few others. With the 2 year deal, everyone should be able to keep a rookie.

I have one question. I haven't decided if i would even use this option, but what about a guy like Jose Macias? He has played 2 years, and in a 3rd year had 4 at bats. He is the only guy I have who even comes close to qualifying as a rookie.

I dont see where 4 abs should count, that doesn't give him any experience or competitive edge whatsoever for the next season....40 maybe but 4, that is about like saying 1 game....

so whats the rule? Things like this are why I'd like to see our "official rules." Which for some reason have yet to be posted...

sounds alright if you keep him to me. I know in hockey you have to play 18 games to no longer be considered a rookie (so baseball's schedule is twice as lonng). So 4 at bats is like what 1 game, maybe 2? That's nothing, sounds alright to me.

according to MLB rules, you are still a rookie if you have not ammased 150 at bats in a single season... or 45 inning's pitched as a pitcher.

Besides.. it's not like i am asking to keep someone who hit 35 HRs or anything.. we are talking about jose macias here. Who may not even make the tigers opening day roster for that matter.

can we please come up with a set standard we're going to go by though? Like set a number of atbats as not counting as a year so we are clear as to who is considered a possibility for this?
