Some NJ reporter started a totally FALSE rumor writing that the Red Sox were trying to trade Trot Nixon for Randy Johnson.:rotf:
Cashman was ordered to call Arizona and find out what the hell was going on, and to stop it at all costs.
hahahaha:rotf:

After what Steiny did to Colangelo, I can't picture the D'backs being all that willing to deal with him. After all, that's why they let the Sox have Schilling for cheaper than they would have for the Skanks.

David Wells had given his word to Colangelo that he'd sign with the D'backs. It was announced in the press that the signing was imminent.
Then Steiny took him to dinner. Next thing you know, Wells is once again a Skank (well, he's ALWAYS a Skank, but you know what I mean). Colangelo has not forgiven him for this. Hence the sky-high price he quoted Steiny for Schilling, and the bargin-basement price with which he made a deal with Theo.
And the best part? Wells gave his word to Steiny that he'd re-sign this year. And, when it came to actually putting his John Hancock on a contract, he went with the Padres.
The Baseball Gods don't like ugly. :D
