RHP Ryo Kumagai, a 22-year-old submarine-style pitcher from Japan, agreed to a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Jan. 15. Kumagai did not allow an earned run in 47 innings as the closer for Tohoku Fukushi University in the northern city of Sendai last spring. During four college seasons, Kumagai had a 0.91 ERA. Tohoku Fukushi University is the school that produced Mariners closer Kazuhiro Sasaki.

45, I don't know about you, but I am getting a little dubious of the Sox' Asian scouting system. Their prospects have yet to yield much and the biggest commodity in that part of the world (Ichiro) slipped past them.

Yeah, I agree. The Sox have signed a lot of Asian talent over the years and not one of them has yet to pan out.
