Three years ago, Brian Daubach was just looking for a chance to prove himself at the major league level after nearly a decade in the minors. Yesterday he agreed to a contract with the Red Sox worth more than $2 million.
Daubach, 29, who earned just $400,000 last season, avoided arbitration via a one-year, $2.325 million deal.
He had asked for $2.5 million, while the Sox offered $2.15 million.
The 29-year-old first baseman hit a career-high 22 home runs last season, becoming just the fifth Red Sox player to hit 20 or more homers in his first three big league campaigns.
A .266 career hitter, Daubach batted .263 in 2001 with 71 RBIs.
