Okay why am I posting? It is obvious that we will need to restructure our system for this coming year... Why should we wait? Some people are unclear and at the very least we need a clear go-to post so none of this arguing erupts.
With a few different threads it has become disorganized and at times turned to either modest discussion or argument with our threads regarding rules. I want this to be the central thread for the future concerns on what we do with the league rules.
What I want from you is to bring up clear and solid suggestions/opinions and also to please stray away from argument. I feel that when you get in an argument its a WASTE OF TIME. It will become egotistical and eventually be a game where you just try to win. I would prefer a progressive series of. opinions, and honestly if you would rather argue than please don't post.
Here are my opinions...
1. KEEP THE CURRENT KEEPER SYSTEM- but only for going into the season. Too many teams have gone too far trading and working around these rules, and the active teams (which are more numerous than the inactive) shouldn't have to suffer because the others weren't around to mold thier teams the right way. Also, even if we were just to cap the amounts, people who traded entire keeper-worthy players would lose what they got in return as well as the talented player they traded. And, it wouldn't be only taking away from the better teams or only benefiting the weaker teams. But at the same time, we should abandone this keeper system for next season but that's the next topic.
2. FREE KEEPER SYSTEM- Have a free keeper system replacing both the DL keeper and Rookie keeper idea going along the lines of what me, Michlee, and Seahawk said. Position players, releivers, and starters all must have fewer than a certain amount of atbats/innings to be considered a free keeper. We could have a strait-cut cap of 3 or 4 so everyone knows that at the start and it wouldn't be an issue. It gives an odd twist of value to the busts and is a more sensible idea than the DL one. But, this would be in effect after the start of the start of the season. Most importantly, it wouldn't include so many valuable players and is limited, thus replenishing the draft talent pool and strengthening the only system that can keep the league balanced... but one more thing would be needed to help the talent pool...
3. CUT DOWN BY ONE KEEPER- I came to a point in the year where I had room to actually keep Jarrod Washburn. Though he's very good, he is NOT a guy worthy of a full keeper spot, and we should not put teams in positions where they can keep second tier guys like that. I say we cut the keepers to 5. Coupled with the free keeper system it would really help the drafts out, and you really have to just try your best to keep your core. The emphasis again is on stregthening the draft.
4. CLOSE OUT SOME ISSUES- I should have listed this as #1, but if we want to make real progress we gotta seperate the issues from the non-issues. Things like these:
-Are we all clear on the roster sizes and dl slots and such?
-Is it fine with everyone that we keep the keeper status as it is to go into the next season with it?
Again please post with solutions in mind, not accusations and stuff...
