I'm going to see the Twins play the Pirates in Bradenton in March. If Reed is still there I hope to get to see him.
But, if I have my way, he'll be a Met again!
The last word I heard is that the Twins were trying to deal him to the Mets for Trachsel. I did hear Reed's agent say that if a trade can't be worked out by March 15, they will rescind the trade demand and stay with the Twins.

Just how arrogant is MLB?

In fact, a lawyer representing Major League Baseball has said the Twins may be obliged to play in the Metrodome this season, but baseball may be under no obligation to send an opponent to Minneapolis. Apparently, they view that as a possible way to get around the ruling, should the need arise.
Something else to keep in mind: Commissioner Bud Selig has stated there will be no lockout of the players this spring. So everyone ought to assume there will be some sort of lockout. If Bud says it's sunny and bright outside, be sure to take your umbrella.
There seems to be no end to the stupidity that issues forth from the inept Office of the Commissioner. I've actually tried not to wish bad things on people, but I may have to make an exception for Mr. Selig.

TC March 15 is the date he would automatically become a free agent if he doesn't get traded. That's my understanding of the rule. As for staying with the Twins, I'd been under the impression that he wasn't really happy there. He's been quoted in the New York papers as saying "Once a Met, always a Met, I guess." (Newsday, 9/30/01) and "God, I would love to come back to the Mets." (Newark Star-Ledger, 1/11/02) That doesn't sound like someone who is champing at the bit to stay in the Twin Cities. JMO, of course. :)
Regardless, many of us in NY want him back. :pout:
You are correct. If he doesn't rescind the trade demand, he becomes a FA on March 15. According to the collective bargaining agreement, he does have the option of changing his mind and staying with the Twins and honoring the last two years of his contract. Since he's signed for two more years at over $7 mil per year, and since the FA market is incredibly soft, he and his agent are thinking that there is no way he would get a contract anywhere near the value of what he has now. His agent admitted to the press that putting in the trade demand was largely a leverage issue and that they were looking for another year to re-sign.
The Twins are hoping that they can work out a trade, and get something in return for him. If that doesn't happen they would love for him to take the FA option so they wouldn't be obligated for $14 mil over the next two years.
Reed got off to a really rough start here in Minnesota. The expectations were pretty high. When they made the trade, the organization was touting him as an All-star pitcher who would put the Twins over the top for the division title. It didn't happen so Reed got kind of a bad rap, even though he pitched much better the last month. I think if he was making $4 mil instead of $7 mil the team would be trying to keep him.
As far as wanting back to New York, he said up front when he came here that it was hard for him to be traded away. I don't doubt that he'd like to go back.
