Obermueller on call for Brewers
Houston - With the first day off of the season approaching Monday, right-hander Wes Obermueller, normally a starter, will shift to a relief role for the Milwaukee Brewers' final two games of a series against Houston.
Will Obermueller become a fixture in the bullpen in coming weeks?
That's pretty much up to Matt Kinney.
Kinney, who will face the Astros tonight, has scuffled in his first two starts (0-1, 7.15 earned run average) after a shaky spring (1-2, 8.05). Obermueller, who prevented a sweep by beating San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon at SBC Park, is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in his first two starts.
The Brewers do not play on 10 of the next 11 Mondays, which means that one of the starters will endure long waits between starts. Obermueller originally was scheduled to pitch next Saturday against St. Louis, a 10-day wait between turns.
If Kinney doesn't pitch well tonight, Obermueller could move up to take Kinney's turn Thursday against Arizona and it could be Kinney who works next Saturday and then plays the waiting game.
