TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida House members want a different type of halftime show when the Super Bowl comes to Jacksonville next year.

The House passed a resolution Tuesday asking for a musical salute to those who fought in World War II during the halftime show of Super Bowl XXXIX on Feb. 6, 2005.

At the Super Bowl in Houston earlier this year, Janet Jackson sparked an uproar when Justin Timberlake tore off part of her costume near the end of the show, exposing her right breast on live television.

Rep. Stan Jordan, R-Jacksonville, said the House should use its "power of persuasion" to convince the NFL to use the Super Bowl for what he called a "fitting" tribute. Jordan, the resolution's sponsor, added that as many as 1,500 members of that generation are passing away daily.

"If we don't salute them now with a fitting and appropriate salute, it will be too late," Jordan said.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday the league appreciates the Legislature's interest, but added no decisions have been made on the entertainment for next year's Super Bowl.

"We have honored the military at the Super Bowl on many occasions, including last year, and look forward to reviewing the details of the resolution," Aiello said.

What happened with Jackson prompted the major broadcast networks to use delays when airing certain live events. It also spurred the league's decision to cancel its opening-game kickoff concert.

This is great and long overdue IMO. I would love to see this happen and it would be so much better than that sleeze they have on year after year now. Old singers that never could sing and young punks that cant sing also. Along with rappers that just put out crap. (sorry if any of you like that stuff I dont :) ) But why not honor your heros that made the world a better place and made all this possable.

I agree it's a salute well overdue, but for the house of reps within' a state begin to dictate what we should see! It's just plain communism my friend, and down right unamerican as I see it.

If it's just a request I can understand and that's all good. If they intend to pass legislation though then that's evil.

exposed breast vs. salute to WWII vets. Huh, that's a tough one. I'm gonna have to go with the WWII vets on that one. You know, in my 5 years in this country i have watched every single superbowl, and have never watched a halftime show. I think this year will be the first.

and I agree maybe a legislation is a little too much, but it's better than the crap we've been seeing the past few years, so I support their trying to change it.

I'll take a tribute to WWII vets over boy bands, and teen idols any day of the week. By the way I don't think the breast was that big of a deal anyway, it's not like I've never seen one and if you don't like the human body complain to god he made it. Point is though yes the halftime shows have sucked recently actually always, remember the days of Up With People?

Definately agree about it being legislated. That would not be a good idea. But let's hope it happens. Just imagine a Super Bowl 1/2time show that good for once. No washed up has been "musicians", no talentless garbage who use shock to sell themselves because they have no talent...

WOW hard to imagine that. No boy bands, no fireworks (well OK the fireworks can stay), no NO TALENT ASSCLOWNS! WOW something to ponder.

You guys are reading this wrong. In no way can they say this is going to be a half time show. That is up to the NFL and the station putting it on. They passed a resolution to ASK them to do a musical salute to vets...

But also I think it should be ALL vets in ALL wars that should be honored....
