EXACTLY!!!! Who the hell does he think he is by asking someone not to draft him? He should be lucky and honored that hes going to the NFL. No one gets to pick where they get drafted to. I hate people like that. Reminds me of Steve Francis. Bunch of fcukers!!!

You beat me to it PP....

Now for my input.....

I have lost all respect for Archie Manning. I have none and he needs to shut his pie hole and let the NFL take care of the NFL and let his son go the the team that drafts him and do his thing. If he is so good than he should be able to take care of himself.

Eli Manning I have lost a ton of respect for him for not saying dad shut up and let things work out. Payton went to a bad team and turned them around and didnt cry about it.

It now looks like Eli and Archie are in the Shads piece of shit QB winny ass I dont want to get drafted by this team club. Welcome to it members are John I will be a Yankee before a Colt horse mouth wrong way Elway, :loser: Ryan get out of my face Leaf.......... :doublefin

THIS IS THE NFL DRAFT THEY PICK WHO THEY WANT AND YOU PUT YOUR HAPPY FACE ON AND GO AND PLAY FOR THEM!!!!!!!! I WOULD KILL TO JUST BEABLE TO STAND ON THE SIDELINE WITH A HELMET ON READY TO JUMP IN THERE AND PLAY FOR THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL!!!!!!!!!

PROVE YOU ARE SO GOOD AND TURN THIS TEAM AROUND!!!!

Ok I am done now have a good day all......

This is a draft the worst teams get to pick the best players... WTF if players are going to start to tell teams where they want to go then why have the damm draft? Then why have the NFL because the good players are only going to go to good teams and they will win the damm thing year after year so then we would always know who is going to win and the bad teams will always have no hope.

Sorry I hate players that do this and John Horse Mouth Elway is still number one and aways will be number one on my list. That is why I like Terry Bradshaw so much when he was slamming Horse Mouth when he was doing this crap.

I can't believe this jagoff.

I've never really followed the Manning clan, but Peyton seems like a good guy. He definately busts arse on the field. I read an article about him in SI a long time ago and they made him out to be a pretty decent down-to-earth guy...

Watching Archie talking about this on ESPN though, I guess I can see why Eli is a self-absorbed, pompous baby.
Archie was talking about it like he was just looking out for his poor poor little baby like any father would do. And the schmucks on ESPN were just eating it up hook line and sinker. "Oh I completely understand Archie, I'm a father also...I hope my poor wittle baby never gets dwafted by a below .500 team...He's too good for that..."

I hate to say it, but I almost hope Manning ends up a total bust in the NFL.

Come on, gang. Say what you really think. LOL. I do tend to agree, though. How on Earth are bad teams ever going to be good if the quality players won't go there? Someone from SD should have gotten to the Mannings and referred to the club's history. Alworth, Hadl, Fouts, Joiner, Chandler, etc... The Chargers have had some of the best passers and receivers in football history. Eli could have fit nicely in that line. (Not that Marty passes the ball like Air Coryell.)

I suspect the bottom line here is two fold. One, the Chargers have lost tons OL and Daddy Manning doesn't want his son following in his footsteps (getting pounded week in and week out). Two, the Giants want Eli. I also think the NFL loves the idea of a Manning in NYC, so now both sides are trying to "create" a trade scenario that would help the Bolts PR while moving the top pick.

In addition, the Chargers really want someone other than Manning. Rumor is they love Philip Rivers, not Archie's kid. If the Chargers can trade down with the G-men, they might pick up a pick (or a player) and Rivers, which may help them more than Manning ever would.

Trot, I completely agree that the Chargers will end up better for this. If I'm Schott, I'm holding the #1 pick ransom. Get multiple picks, force the Giants hands. SD has all the power.

Oh yeah, I hope both Eli and the Giants SUCK forever.

If I werre the Chargers, I would draft Manning anyhow... let him sit out all season. Then when he re-enters the draft when he becomes eligible to again, Iw ould draft him again. Eventually, he either has to play for me, or never play in the NFL.

I dont think Manning will sit the season. But you got to draft the guy that helps your team the most. No matter who he is or where he plays. The worst team MUST take the best guy they need the most....

Well Manning is screwed either way. If he gets picked by the Chargers, his life will be a living hell. His teammates will have little if any respect for him. Hes going to get BOO-ed big time by the fans for every little mistake he makes. And if he goes the NY Giants way, hes going to have ALOT of pressure on him. The NY media will pick him apart. NY is not a place for any type of failure. He will be BOO-ed out of NYC if he screws up. Thats my take.

I was thinking alone these lines also. I could be wrong, but his daddy doing what he did shows me maybe Eli is not as mature or maybe kinda in the shadows of an overbearing father??? If this is the case it definately makes me wonder how well he'll be able to handle pressure. He's put his neck out on the line saying he's too good to play for the Chargers. Imgaine the beating he'll take if he goes into NY and has a bad first year. Will he be able to handle it?

I'm not so sure that the Chargers hold all the power now that word got out that he is prepared to sit out the season if he is drafted by the Chargers...

If anything, I think that has actually hurt them in negotiations....

Phillips had an excellent interview on the Dan Patrick show today... I really like this guy... Very humble and down to earth.... I hope he does well and gets drafted very high.....

The Chargers weren't going to draft Eli Manning anyway. After the Ryan Leaf and Mike Vick accidents, drafting the wrong quarterback would be a disaster. Why do you think they weant public with this information instead of dealing him under the table. Oh he didn't want to play for us we couldn't take him, It's not our fault. The chargers are either going to take Gallery as the number one pick or deal Eli to the Giants. If they trade first for fourth they will still be able to pick up Rivers or Roethlisberger. I'm guessing they had their eye on Roethhlisberger in the first place. Going public would take the heat off them for this decision. On top of that they would probably recieve an additional second round pick from New York. This would be smart management but a classless act hanging the Manning family out to dry.

Archie Manning is trying to look out for his sons best interest. I'm not a Manning fan, Peyton or Eli but who cares. If he has the power to play where he wants to play then do it. Who're the crybabies here? The San Diego Chargers.

By the way Durango53, I don't think John Elway is sitting on his pile of money, wearing his two superbowl rings, worrying about what anybody thinks of his career decisions.

Well obviously the talk did not help the Giants getting SCREWED in the draft:Pissed:

The Chargers got New York's third-round pick this year and the Giants' first and fifth-rounders in 2005 in addition to Rivers (4th pick overall)

Waaaaaaaaaaay too much IMO for Manning....

They should have kept Rivers and their draft picks......

If anything they should have made this deal without involving the G-Men's #1 pick next year.... Why did they give up so much:notme:

Manning Gets Wish: No. 1 Pick, Then Trade

By BARRY WILNER, AP Football Writer

NEW YORK - It took a while before Eli Manning could truly enjoy draft day. San Diego chose Manning to open Saturday's NFL draft, despite pleas from his family not to, then traded him to the New York Giants (news) for quarterback Philip Rivers.

"I'm a lot happier now than I was 10 minutes ago," Manning said during a second news conference; his first came when he still belonged to the Chargers.

"We wanted a trade to happen. We never had favorite teams."

Manning and his family had requested that the Chargers not select the Mississippi quarterback, but San Diego made him the No. 1 overall pick. An hour later, after the Giants chose North Carolina State's Rivers, the deal was announced.

The Chargers get New York's third-round pick this year and the Giants' first and fifth-rounders in 2005 in addition to Rivers, whose stock soared after private workouts and interviews.

Manning joined brother Peyton, the NFL's co-MVP last season, and father Archie in being picked in the first two spots of a draft. Peyton went first overall in 1998 to Indianapolis, and Archie was the No. 2 pick in 1971. They are the first family to have three players selected in the first round of the draft.

The crowd at Madison Square Garden booed lustily when Eli Manning's name was first called and as he held up a Chargers jersey and hat. They yelled just as loudly when the trade to the Giants was announced.

"I've heard boos before," Manning said. "I've been in a lot of stadiums where they've booed."

Manning even went back on stage after the trade to take photos holding up a Giants jersey. He was joined by Archie, Peyton and his mom, Olivia Manning.

Through Archie and agent Tom Condon, the Mannings told San Diego general manager A.J. Smith not to take Eli, and that Eli was prepared to sit out the season if they did choose him. The Mannings preferred New York, and got what they sought.

With the second pick, Oakland selected Iowa tackle Robert Gallery. Several teams, including the Giants and Browns, were eager to get Gallery, who is considered the best offensive line prospect since Orlando Pace went No. 1 overall to St. Louis in 1997.

"I am going in there to get a starting job and earn respect," he said. "I want to be a part of that legacy and end up in the same category" as Hall of Famers Art Shell and Gene Upshaw.

Arizona also did the expected, taking wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who was eligible after his sophomore season because he attended prep school before going to Pitt. Fitzgerald was a ball boy for the Vikings when current Cardinals coach Dennis Green was at Minnesota.

By acquiring Manning, the Giants might have signaled the end of Kerry Collins' stay in New York because he has only one year left on his contract at about $8 million.

Just before the Chargers-Giants trade was announced, Washington took Miami safety Sean Taylor, who should be an instant starter.

Detroit traded the sixth overall spot to Cleveland, which moved up just one place and surrendered this year's second-round selection to get Miami tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. Browns coach Butch Davis recruited Winslow to the Hurricanes.

Winslow, the son of Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow, said going to Cleveland was "an ideal situation."

The Lions went for Texas wide receiver Roy Williams, who they will team with Charles Rogers, taken second overall last year. Williams' stock also rose significantly in the postseason.

Atlanta grabbed Virginia Tech cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who is a buddy of former college teammate Michael Vick, the Falcons' starting quarterback. Hall says his NFL idol is Deion Sanders, who began his career with the Falcons.

Jacksonville surprisingly took Washington wide receiver Reggie Williams, who was projected to go in the middle of the round — not in the top 10. But the Jaguars are weak at wideout.

The 10th pick was South Carolina cornerback Dunta Robinson, taken by Houston, which likely will move starting cornerback Marcus Coleman to safety.

Ben Roethlisberger of Miami of Ohio became the third quarterback chosen, going to Pittsburgh, which also had expressed interest in Rivers.

The Jets, who were most interested in cornerbacks Hall and Robinson, instead went for Miami inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma, who also might wind up on the outside.

Buffalo took Wisconsin receiver Lee Evans, who was one of the fastest players in the draft but has a history of knee injuries. And Chicago, with a need on the defensive line, got the highest-rated tackle, Tommie Harris of Oklahoma.

Tampa Bay, perhaps looking for a tall receiver to replace the deposed Keyshawn Johnson, chose Michael Clayton of LSU, who also was projected to go lower. Clayton was the fifth wideout in the first 15 selections.

Philadelphia moved up from No. 28, sending that pick and its second-rounder to San Francisco, then selected 366-pound offensive tackle Shawn Andrews.

I'm thrilled for the Chargers (and confused by the Giants). How could this have gone any better? Even if Manning had really wanted to play there, would he help more than gaining three draft choices (a first, third and fifth) over the next two seasons plus acquired one of the top 3 QBs in this year's draft?

Did anyone hear Sean Salisbury right after it became obvious a trade was going to happen? He wondered aloud why didn't the Chargers just take Rivers if that's who they wanted? I was screaming at the tv.

Why should they draft Rivers if they can still get him plus three more draft choices? Even if they only picked up one choice plus Rivers, they still gain something from a losing situation. How is that a bad thing, even if they wanted Eli? Especially in light of Manning's discontent and the Chargers recent success with drafting (or not drafting in Vick's case) QBs?

Anyway, I'm still happy for SD football fans. As for the Giants, well, can someone explain to me what they were thinking? This could be the Herschel Walker deal, part II.

It kinda baffles me it's not like Manning was a runaway #1 pick to begin with. Or like he's got the ability coming out of college of a Marino or Elway, or even his big brother. I almost wonder if the soap opera he started saying he didn't want to go to the Chargers helped boost his status.

When we won the lottery I was pretty excited about the possibility of taking a QB who had a good history. But he screwed us over. I think Manning is overhyped and is riding the family name but what do I know I punch a keyboard for a living and those guys make football picks for a living. But the Bolts should get a top 5 draft pick next year also. So there is a great chance the Bolts could have two top 10 picks next year and set themselves up very nice...

This is something else also. You are getting paid millions of dollars to play a game. How can you not be happy??? You get to do what millions of people would love to do. I would love to stand on the sidelines as a backups backup. I know people want to win I do more than anyone but when I play a sport I dont get paid and I get to pick the team I want to play with or put one together that I want to play with. These guys get picked to play with a team and do your time and then you can pick your team. I just dont understand. Take a bad team to greatness you will forever have a first class ticket in that town. Look at Wrong Way Elway in Denver he is a hero and Joe Montana can do about what he wants in SF. If Manning or now Rivers takes the Bolts to the Super Bowl and wins he will be hailed a great player for the rest of his life in Bolt land.
