SAN FRANCISCO -- Emmy Award-winning network announcer and former All-Star catcher Tim McCarver has been added to the San Francisco Giants television broadcasting team, club Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Larry Baer announced today.
McCarver, who won an Emmy Award this past year for broadcast excellence and has received 13 Emmy Award nominations during his 17 seasons as a network announcer for ABC, CBS and FOX, will team with Mike Krukow on approximately 25 telecasts on the Giants flagship television station KTVU-FOX 2. He will also join a veteran Giants broadcast team that features Jon Miller, Duane Kuiper and Lon Simmons.
"We feel our broadcast team is second to none," said Baer. "And the addition of such a talented and insightful person as Tim McCarver just adds to the quality of our telecasts. The reservoir of knowledge between the battery of Tim and Mike Krukow certainly promises to inform and entertain our television audience."
McCarver, who will make his Giants' debut in the club's March 30th exhibition telecast vs. the Oakland Athletics, currently is the lead analyst for the FOX Saturday Baseball Game of the Week, a position he has held since joining FOX Sports in 1996. He is currently the only network television baseball analyst to broadcast the last 10 regular and post-seasons, including 12 of the last 15 World Series.
Along with his network baseball experience, the 60-year-old McCarver has also worked local telecasts for the Philadelphia Phillies (1980-82), New York Mets (1983-98) and New York Yankees (1999-2001).
"I am delighted to be joining the Giants organization," said McCarver. "I have been broadcasting for teams in New York the past 19 years, so I look for this to be a new and exciting experience for me. San Francisco is such a wonderful city with such a large and knowledgeable fan base."
A native of Memphis, TN, McCarver enjoyed a 21-year Major League career in which he finished with a .271 lifetime batting average and 97 home runs in 1,909 games. He began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959, and is one of just seven modern-day players to play in four decades. He participated in two All-Star Games (1966-67), three League Championship Series (1976-78), was a member of two World Championship teams in St. Louis (1964 and '67) and was the hottest hitter in the 1964 World Series when he led all regulars with a .478 batting average.
