i said to my co-worker, "what's that?"
she said "a defibrillator"
"a defibrillator?"
she said "yeah, in case someone has a heart attack..."
me: :rotf: "hahahahaha funny!"
her: (not at all laughing) "it's not funny. someone can have a heart attack here."
 yikes, she wasn't kidding.
this is the first time i've ever seen a defibrillator in an office! (and here i'd always joked about having one for those Armando Benitez bottom of the 9th innings!)

Portable Defibs have saved thousands of lives. Most public places have them like subways and the airport. Police carry them in their cars. Even schools are now keeping them. The portable ones do not require medical training, they contain voice instructions that tell the "common folk" exactly what to do.
I'm used to being around defib's since my former job in a clinic we HAD to have one on the "crash cart" and my job now-we fix medical equipment so we have them laying around the shop.
The best are Pulse-Ox's which check your pulse and blood oxygen levels from a clip on your finger...I like to check every now and again that I'm still alive ;)

wow peebs i didn't know that
i've been working all over the place in like forever and this is the FIRST time i've seen one just ho-hum lying around on a desk....
i work in a LAW FIRM! (course, seeing it lying around like that, and everyone acting like it's normal, made me question hmm maybe i shouldn't be working HERE  )
i've worked in law firms before and investment banks and all kinds of corporate places....but THIS is the first time i've ever seen an office have one! is this a new trend or something?
yeah, this one sounds just like the one you described...nice and fancy with voice instructions....

Is this office in a big building? Maybe they are designated for the entire building to hold it for emergencies.
Besides, have you ever seen what Lawyer's charge? It would give anyone a heart attack!! ;)

omigod tell me about it! i saw their "bills" and they charge $425 an hour just to chat  and a "hello" on the phone is like $100 from the jr associates!
the building is a typical corporate midtown building, but i think THIS defibrillator is just the one for our corner of the office (they were acting like they had 'em in every dept)
this law firm has been around forever apparently and they got alotta old guys so i think that's why..... and i think that's why i got a subtle dirty look when i laughed! OOPS :devillook
