Announcing teams or individuals....

My favorite alltime is Gargiola and Scully from the old NBC team....
#2 is Costas and Kubek.....

I also like it when Costas, Uecker and Morgan team up....Not a big Morgan fan but Uek and Costas make up for Morgans shortcomings.......

Now I like to listen to Scully out in LA and I like to listen to........

Oh crap, i am having a brain fart and I can't remember the guys name that works with Morgan on the ESPN broadcasts...
Is it John Miller???? I think Miller is the last name but can't remember the first name.....ARGHHHHHHHH:angry:

Anways, those are some that I enjoy listening to...

That would be Jon Miller, James! My favorite national team is still Timmy McCarver and -my brain fart--Joe? Buck. One of Jack's talented sons!

Not that I know enough about him but Jack Buck... is a very respectable announcer. Especially because of the team he announced for

Ah thank you Bear...John, Jon, all good...
I like Joe Buck as well.. A lot of people percieve him as a homer but I enjoy listening to his broadcasts as well....

I think my favorite would have to have been Vin Scully back in the old NBC days as well. I have not heard him since then though is the sad thing. I remember back at HB we named who our "Mr. Baseball" was. I chose Scully. And of course Mel Allen, but to my knowledge he was never an announcer.

Shawn, I get to listen to Scully all the time during Dodger broadcasts via the baseball package on my DirecTV...He does the Fox LA games I believe....
Brings back good memories

On the other hand, I really dislike(d) Harry Carey, Phil Rizzuto, and Skip Carey...

Hey jimbo... you would probably be able to answer this for me. I am almost positive that I read in an old Pirate program from the Mid-80s that Mike Lange was a pirate announcer during at least part of one season. Do you know if this is true? or if I am just imagining things?

Another vote for Vin Scully, I've grown up listening to him. When I was a kid I used to hope for rain delays because he always had a good story to tell. Unfortnately, if I want to watch an Angels game now I have to hear Rex Hudler, who is bad to the point that I'll put the TV on mute. Bob Costas is another favorite, did anyone see him as a guest announcer for a half inning during the playoffs last season? He tore into the Fox Family Channel the whole time, it was hilarious.

I really liked Harry Carray. I'd listen to him whenever I could. He made his mistakes as he got older, but I didn't care.

I hate Skip Carray though, he's horrible.

Costas is another very good announcer.

as a Pirate fan, even though i never got to hear anything aside from archived stuff... I can't forget about Bob Prince.... I just wish I could have gotten to hear him day in and day out.

I grew up in St. Louis listening to Harry Carey and Jack Buck. Harry was quite a character all right. Jack fed ya the straight baseball stuff. There are a lot of good ones out there but there is only one number one in my mind. Vin Scully, story teller, dream weaver and basball bible all rolled into one solid gold guy. He is pleasant, charming, well spoken, a gentleman and he has seen it all. If you have not had the distinct pleasure of listening to him yet you better do it soon as his work load is now less than 3 innings per game and will likely to be further reduced as father time is finally starting to take a toll. Vin is the Man!

If you grew up in St. Louis, how did you NOT get sucked in to Cardinals fanfare?

Bob Costas would be very high on my list, too. He can get too melodramatic, too overbearing at times (he was classic before he became a star), but he would still be my first choice.

Jack Buck and Vin Scully are great. Joe Buck isn't bad. I enjoyed Harry Caray for what he was, more personality than broadcaster. As for Skip and Chip, I can deal with both. I like Jon Miller and love his impressions of other announcers. (I also can't take too much of Joe Morgan.)

Growing up in Michigan, Ernie Harwell is one of my favorites, so to is his old radio sidekick Paul Carey. They were awesome together. Carey really deserves some HOF consideration, atlthough he will never get it. Another all-time favorite of mine is Curt Gowdy.

No clue Shawn... sorry! I can't get KDKA in upstate NY so other than when I had internet access to the broadcasts, I have only been able to follow the Buccos in the paper all of these years.

I have to be a homer and mention Dave Niehaus. He has called every Mariner game, and is a fixture in the Northwest.

Bill Brown and Jim Deshaies right now after calling tonight's no-no!

To each their own on this, several names mentioned I didn't really care for in the past or the present ... Gene Elston was a great radio voice for me, he was a super play-by-play guy, you always knew what the count was, the score, where the runners and fielders were, if the ball scooted, hopped or was on a line.

I only got the chance to hear Harwell do a few games, and he was a champ ... I'm glad to hear he was doing another game for oldtime's sake this year.

My dad told me that Red Barber and Jack Buck were two of his favorites when he could pick them up on the radio.

Well, as I only watch about 2 or 3 games a week, and I get the same broadcast every Sunday night, I have to say i'm a big fan of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Don't always agree with Joe, but he gets the job done. Last night I listened to Dave O'Brien and Tony Gwynn. Listening to them sure made up for the fact that the Red Sox were killing the Cards at the time.
