I like this for 3 reasons.

1: The obvious, he is a great Fenway hitter.

2: Good attitude, friends with Manny.

3: Refreshing to hear him say he likes it here. He signed because he likes it, not for the money. :cool:

This makes me happier than a pig in shit. :)

All along people have been saying Ortiz is the most important one to sign of the free agents. They say Tek is 2nd.

SO this is all I got so far, a 2 years extension, option for a third. No $$$ details yet.

This is definitely great news. I love Ortiz.

I heard the same thing, Bob. Two years, club option for a third. He's signed through 2007 now. :)

haaaaaaleluyah! OMG! I heard they started negotiations yesterday, and they were inching closer to a new deal. This just makes my day! At least we keep the offense. now if only we could get varitek we'd be all set.

Great news for Ortiz and great news for the Red Sox!!!

I hope and wish the Red Sox luck and Ortiz luck. Great move for both sides and love it!!!

Hmmmmm, not sure what I think about this one yet. I think you can get someone that can hit as well as Ortiz for less than 6.5 million.

Fair enough, but that would involve risk. They know Ortiz can hit at Fenway, so I think it's an excellent signing.

I thought Ortiz being a DH was the least of the priorities, but for the money you can't go wrong. hopefully it sets a good mood among the other FA's and gets the ball rolling on them...
