Of all players in Boston, the big Hitters and all, why is that Bellhorn (of all players) leads the team in walks?

They joke around on WEEI saying the reason why he walks so much is that he doesnt swing at pitches cuz he cant hit. :D :notme:

it's cuz he doesn't know how to hit the ball! he just stands there and takes balls, or he strikes out...lol

but he's got a great OBP, and he's the best we've got, so...not much use talking about it until Nomah gets back.

today he had 2Runs
Not a bad day, but he didn't make the throw to get the guy out in one of the innings, which he should have had.

"Why is it that he leads the team in walks?"
Well, the answer is pretty simple. He is the most patient hitter on the team. Folks, I've gone around and around with other people on another site about this. Walks are not just something that happens TO the player. There is a certain amount of skill involved here. So, it isn't a case of pitchers saying "we're going to pitch around Bellhorn" as it is Bellhorn saying "I'm going to force them to get me out". Obviously, he is flawed hitter or he wouldn't have come as cheaply as he did. But, he has a sparkling OBP and some pop in his bat.
Now, the strikeouts is a little easier to explain. A hitter with his style will accumalate a lot of two strike counts. I'd also be interested to see what the swinging/looking breakdown for his Ks (for the enterprising Red Sox fan). Unless you're a gifted contact hitter, the patient approach will probably yield more Ks because your hit deeper into counts.

Most of his K's, without looking them up, I'd say are looking. That said the Red Sox lead the Majors in walks and K's. Lots of patient dudes.

Holy Shit! Bellhorn has 26 RBI's. Only 3 less than Manny Ramirez!
He has scored 55 runs. His .OBP is hovering around .400. His BA sucks, but geez, he is contributing.
