CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bobby Abreu had an emergency appendectomy that will postpone his arrival at Spring Training.
Vacationing in Caracas, the Venezuela-born Abreu fell ill Saturday, hours after participating in a home run derby before the Caribbean Series. He was released the same day in good condition and was expected to spend two to three weeks resting with family in the central city of Maracay.
Abreu, 27, hit .289 with 31 home runs and 110 RBIs for Philadelphia last season.
