.500 and only 3 games out of 1st:thumbsup:

Some key games coming up as our next 12 games are against Philly and Florida, the 2 teams we are chasing...

I think the next 2 weeks may tell if we are a contender or pretender in this division....

What do you guys think of our chances the next 2 weeks against the toughest teams in the division?

IMO it is very important for a split overall to keep up the moral of this team and to show the 2 top teams that we can play with them....

Thoughts?

The biggest and tough challenge that Mets will face against Phillies for 12 games series (both home and road games) which are kinda hot so far.

The guys have been scrappy lately. Anything's possible. Ya gotta believe.

It depends on "which" team shows up to play. If everyone shows up healthy and ready to play, I like our chances. The last couple of weeks, they've shown they can hang in there and "gut it out." I'd feel a lot better about it, though, if Al was in the rotation. At this point, with him on the DL and the 4th and 5th spots not settled yet, our starting pitching is questionable. The starters need to get deeper into the games.

In the next 12 games, the Mets will go 7-5 (mark my words)... :) And then the media won't know what to do with itself. All the pessimistic writers will write stuff like: "Don't kid yourselves. The Mets still suck. They're giving false hope to their fans, but by October, the Mets will be settled deep in the standings."

I, of course, will continue to ignore the negative media and enjoy this fun season! :D

7-5 ain't bad!

This are 12 crucial games....last year one of the (many) problems was hat we couldn't beat anybody in our division, absolutely horrific numbers against the NL East)

Chuck, you said it pefectly! :) Positive vibes!

worried about our #4 and #5 starter, Seo and Yates are so iffy, althoigh I have more confidence in Yates. The bullpen has really stepped it up lately, but I wonder if they can hold it up for the next 12. Glavine was HUGE in giving te bullpen a much needed day odd escpially with today's day off.

Well we are 4-4 so far with 4 to go with Florida this weekend...

We are hanging in there kids....

When I wrote the original post we were .500 and 3 games out....

8 games later we are still at .500 and only 3.5 games out...

National League
East W L Pct GB Home Road East Cent West Streak L10

Florida 30 23 .566 -- 16-12 14-11 15-6 6-9 9-8 Lost 3 6-4

Philadelphia 27 24 .529 2.0 14-13 13-11 8-13 5-6 14-5 Lost 3 4-6

NY Mets 26 26 .500 3.5 13-11 13-15 11-10 4-11 11-5 Won 3 6-4

Montreal 17 35 .327 12.5 9-17 8-18 7-18 4-8 6-9 Won 1 3-7

With these comeback wins, anyone else thinking "99" or "00"?

I am!

I think there's an attitude in the clubhouse........ Cliff Floyd was talking about it. They always feel like they can come back.

I know alot of teams say that, but this just feels different to me than the last couple of years.

I'm sort of liking it.

i'll gladly take a split from the marlins series
i was listening to joe beningo and like he said any met fan should be happy with a 6-6 stretch during these 12 games

Even if this season is all for naught (and I surely hope it's not), this Phillies series was, dare I say, Amazin'!

I've actually been thinking more of '86. :bigsquare It ain't over til it's over.

And NO I'm not delusional......I do not expect those same results!

Well, not this year anyway........

definitely, very 99 and 00-like!

I LOVED those teams! I cried, I laughed, everybody on campus knew I was a huge Mets fan, I watched games, got my roomate into baseball ans when the Mets clinced to go the WS in 2000, everybody form the floor came to watch Timo Perez snag that last out. Eveybody was so happy for me, funny how that works, I didn't damn thing. :D

In 02 and especially '03, I had nobody to watch games with and really no reason to cheer...so I hope in 2004 theMets continue to play with their hearts on their sleeves and I continue to have cool people to watch the games with or talk to on the phone... :D

Back to the topic at hand.....This team is so much fun to watch, they fight till the end and I know, like they know they have a chance and it is isn't over in the fifth inning like it was so many games last year. They are so damn loveable...

Heart + Chemistry = fun and wins!

Definitely!! I've been saying that for the past couple of weeks. I loved watching in '99 and '00 cause you never knew what was going to happen til the final out and it's the same way this year. '01, '02, & '03 were so depressing. There wasn't really any heart. Well, towards the end of '01 there was (after 9/11). I  this team!

I'm catchin' the energy!

Okay, I'm not gonna say we're gonna be in the postseason, but at least we will be playing meaningful games beyond June.

Well 2 weeks later and we are still .500 and only lost .5 of a game on the standings....

6-6 I am satisfied with considering the quality of teams we are playing....

We need to kick some butt in Interleague play...
