Well, it looks like it's almost a done deal, so what does that mean for Rich Gannon? He carries a cap price of about $8 mil, which is rediculous for a backup, so if he gets cut, are there any teams that would give him a chance to start or is he a backup?

Also, what are Collins' chances with Oakland this year? Haven't followed their additions too closely over than Sapp and Washington, is the offense going to be enough to get back in the playoffs?

A great move for the Raiders I feel. I like Gannon but he is done. I dont know any team out there that he would get to start with unless it is the Gaints.

I dont know if the offense can get them back to the playoffs. There WR core is still very old... They need a WR to go with Rice and Brown and Porter is overrated.

Collins must be excited about having the Iowa kid watchin his backside after being behind that makeshift line in New York last year...The weapons don't seem to be there...Porter is a nice 3rd WR, but matching him up against a top CB and he disappears...Rice and Brown are not not top WRs anymore, so putting them in Norv Turner's downfield offense should be interesting

There is no doubt that Gannon is gone. My guess is he signs with Tampa Bay.

Kerry Collins
The Raiders officially signed Kerry Collins today to what has been reported to be a three-year, $16 million deal.

being a Giants fan i just don't see Collins fitting in with the Raiders.I would think that Offense needs a mobile QB and Collins certainly isnt that.

The reason you think the need a moble QB was because they had no line like the Gaints last year. And the Raiders went and drafted a two linemen and one with a first round and he will fit right in right away. They did what the Gaints should have done. Get the big guys first and then find a QB to stand behind them. Collins will be fine there it is just there WR that are going to be hard for him.

A war is brewing in Oakland. Players and coaches are taking sides.

Collins vs Gannon

Gannon still thinks it is his team. The coach is trying to be loyal. The players are tired of losing and want Collins in who is much younger.

What bothers me is how they sign Collins, then come out and say that Gannon is the starter. Show a little respect for your NFL MVP who took you to the Super Bowl. At least St. Louis was straight up with Kurt Warner. They gave Warner every chance to succeed and ultimately they just said, "Kurt, you are a great quarterback but the bottom line is that we aren't winning."

So, what is Norv Turner going to do? He is going to supposedly put it in Gannon's hands and let him LOSE his job. That way, he hasn't "backstabbed" Gannon, yet he gives Collins a chance to come in and outperform him to take the starting job in training camp.

Personally, I think it is chicken sh$t. If Gannon isn't in your plans, then release him and let him have the time to sign with another team. He doens't have many years left and I doubt he wants to waste this year holding a clipboard.

I love this one:
"from ESPN"

Gannon and Turner talked about the possibility of signing Collins last week. Turner said Gannon was comfortable with the concept.

"Rich is our starting quarterback and Kerry will be our backup," Turner said. "Late last week, Rich and I had a great visit when we thought we were going in the direction of signing Collins."

He acts as if it was Gannon's idea. I'm sure it was more like, "Don't worry Rich. You are our guy. But having a backup who was in the Super Bowl three years ago will help the team. You're a team player right Rich? Don't you want the TEAM to win?"

It makes me sick.

Collins WILL start. And paying Gannon $7 million as a backup is rediculous. Just like Al Davis to strongarm Gannon into taking a salary cut by pretending that he has a chance to keep his job when they just signed Collins for 3 years and $16 million.

Where's the honor.
