So now since things are patched up between Nomah and Co. and John Henry, what do y'all think about it now? Seems to me that Nomah, his agent, John Henry and even Mitt Romney wants Nomah to stay. And his agent was quoted:

"[Garciaparra] absolutely wants to stay here. I personally would like to see him stay here, and you can see from the outpouring here, everyone wants him to stay here."

I believe Nomah should have signed when the offer (last year) of 4 years for $60 million. He counter offered with 4 years for $68 million. But now since that didnt fly, he was offered 4 years for $48 million at the beginning of the year. But of course we know that offer doesnt stand anymore at this point in the season. HOWEVER, now since everyone is all buddy buddy now, what price is right???

the price would be right at 4 years for 54 or 55 mil

I agree with Ray.

I hope both sides can come to an agreement. I want Nomah to stay. HOWEVER, if he leaves it won't be the end of the world. It would suck to see him go though.

I think signing Jason Varitek is a higher priority.

Of course his agent is spewing this we want Nomah to stay BS, he can't even frickin play! My guess is his market has dwindled, and they're getting nervous. I give Nomah $11 mill a year, not a cent more.

Like Babs, signing Tek is more important IMO.

My thoughts exactly. Why would the Sox pay him more than the offer (4 years for $48 million) that was given to him in the beginning of spring season? That was when he was healthy. I would only re-offer the $48 mill.

I think Theo and Co. knows what they are doing to this point. They signed, IMO, the biggest priority FA, Ortiz. Others will come in time. Petey being one of them.

I know I have changed my opinion 47 times, (allowed for females:D), but I STRONGLY believe Pedro stays.

I agree. Even though I have not shared my thoughts about Petey yet. Petey is starting to learn how to utilize the new Petey. Yeah, hes not throwing 95 MPH anymore, but dude leads the league in K's though. Go figure. Petey stays. Lowe goes.

You guys are saying Lowe will be the only free agent that does not get signed? You're nuts. :PPsmilie:

We will lose at least two, with Lowe being one of them.

No, we will lose Nomah and Lowe. Nomah will not sign for what we think he's worth.

i agree, but what are we doing to have to pay pedro? Is he going to make anything out of this, hey, i told ortiz to stay business? you think he will ask for more?

I hope we can sign Nomar, he's been my favorite player for as long as I can remember, I grew up watching him play in Pawtucket, where he was my favorite player, and I remember when my Dad told me he'd be called up soon, that game he hit 2 HRs.

Anyways, I'd say that signing Tek is TOP priority, and Nomar is second.

I love Pedro, but he's not worth $18M.

I honestly think Pedro signs for Schilling money.

you think so? i dunno...i think on the open market he will be able to get more money. I'd be surprised if he didnt go free agency. If he doesn't though, it may just earn him some respect with me at least, since he's willing to give up money to play in boston.

I do think, but, wtf do I really know? I think it depends on how this season goes. If we go far in post-season, I think he stays.

lol, but we went far into the post season last year and he was *****in about us picking up his contract. but i agree, its far too early to start guessing what will happen.

Nomar Garciaparra continues to work out and will visit with Red Sox team doctors on Friday, according to the AP. It's possible that a decision will be made on when Garciaparra will be able to begin a rehab assignment.

Given Pokey Reese's excellent defensive play at shortstop, some people are starting to wonder if the Red Sox will ask Nomar Garciaparra to move to second base when he returns, according to the Boston Globe. That does not appear likely, however, as Garciaparra said that no one has even approached him with the idea.

The Red Sox announced that Nomar Garciaparra will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday. It is not clear how long Garciaparra will play there before returning to the majors.

I heard he could be back for the upcomming road trip.

Could be. May 29 Nomar Garciaparra will take batting practice today and then huddle with team trainers and Dr. Bill Morgan to set out a timetable for his return, according to the Boston Globe.

its going to be interesting to see what francona will do with the lineup when nomar comes back. I wonder who will lose out.

I think Nomah signs a one year deal and will get an extension some time next spring training, Pedro and Tek stay, but Lowe is gone....he doesn't seem to have his head on straight anymore and the bad pitches are getting to him again

No way Bellhorn loses his spot. Youk goes back to Triple A and Bellhorn moves to 3rd.

Nomah supposedly will start with us next Tuesday at home. Will be interesting to see what he can do.

Thedatch
06-01-2004, 12:28 PM
that might be a good solution. that way youk doesnt get attached to playing in the bigs, and we can bring him up next year for a whole season. but is bellhorn any good at third?

PissedPrincess
06-01-2004, 12:33 PM
Bellhorn played 3rd with the Cubs. He's just as good as Youk, who, IMO, is average defensively. Youk needs to get a year of Triple A under his belt, and we can bring him back next year, or..trade him for pitching this year.

Our pitching staff is in trouble. It's Pedro and Schilling, Wake half the time, and pray after that.

Thedatch

i dont think we want to trade youkilis. you look at what he's done in short time here, and then we look at the last time we traded a player for a pitcher. hillenbrand for kim. and what about sanchez? we traded him for someone who isnt on our team anymore right?

PissedPrincess
06-01-2004, 12:43 PM
Well Datch, I'm guessing we are still trying to win this year. We don't know how good Youk will be. Remember Wilton Veras? Hillenbrand has sucked, Sanchez hasn't even played yet because of injuries.

I like Youk so far, but if we could toss him in a deal to bring us a Garcia, I do it.

06-01-2004, 12:45 PM
i guess. I dont know. I just dont like giving away potential all star talent for some pitcher who isnt even guaranteed to pitch well, and who were only gonna have for like 1/4 of a year.

Well, if Lowe could pitch worth a shit, we wouldn't have to discuss this. :(
