i posted this in the Dugout as well but wanted to make sure everyone saw it.... i had met this girl Vicki at Bike to Shea day and she invited me to this, said it was the funnest thing ever :D she told me to invite people......

Note: Also possible to go without a bike and take a cab from Ferry Terminal to Beach. See below.


Join us for a ferry ride across the whole of NYC Harbor, from the tip of Manhattan to the northern part of New Jersey, right by the Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area. There we will bike along the roadway and sand dunes and beaches, have a picnic lunch on the beach, and swim and sun. We will return for a "cruise" back across the NYC Harbour in the late afternoon or early evening (two options)




Logistics:


Take
10:30am Ferry from East Side @ 34th
or
11am from end of Wall St./East River @ Pier 11


** Plan to be at the Ferry 15 minutes earlier at latest to buy ticket
and be sure you are in line, etc. !!!


COST: $20 Round Trip, plus $3 bike fee for each leg.


Arrives Highlands about 11:50am

Return via Ferry:


Depart 4:30..arrive Wall Street 5:13 pm or


Depart 6:40 (after early dinner by shore)..arrive at 7:30pm



TRIP PLAN:

This bike ride will be of very short distance and over mostly flat terrain; mostly
we will use bikes to get us to the beach from the Ferry Terminal (about 3 miles).

The day will include lovely boat cruising from NYC to NJ. We will bike from Highlands, NJ out along the coast to the tip of Sandy Hook State Park, where will we picnic, swim in the ocean, play frisbee, read the NY Times Sunday Section.

Those who have rental bikes may need to catch the early Ferry back in order to get their bikes returned in time. Others may wish to stay later and catch the 6:40pm. Ferry back after an moderately priced seafood dinner at one of the many harborside restaurants near the Ferry terminal (bring cash and a light for your bike if you want to stay later).

WHAT TO BRING:

Day pack or bike rack to hold following:
Lunch (* No place to stop during trip, you must buy beforehand*)
1 Liter/Quarts of water (can replenish at beach).
Beach towel for drying
Beach blanket for sitting (optional)
Swimsuit
Windbreaker or light jacket (for shore breezes and ferry).
Hat for beach
A little cash for inexpensive seafood dinner if you wish.


FOR BIKING:
Wear whatever you are comfortable biking in that day.
(I suggest you not plan to bike back in wet
swim suit).
Helmet

IF COMING FROM FROM NJ:

Meet at 11:50am at the Highland Ferry Terminal, in Highlands New
Jersey. Call (732) 872 2628 for directions.

RAIN

If there is heavy rain we will cancel, but we will go ahead if there is a light drizzle as
you never know if it will clear up later. Be optimistic. You
can always call me that morning on my cell phone if you

Thanks for posting that, metsmagic! :-)

I might be able to do this one -- since I live alot closer to the beach, than I am to the city, or the ballpark....I'll have to see what my plans are for that day. Probably by next week or so, I should have a better idea. Otherwise, I'd love to join ya. For one, I love the beach! :D

Well, some good news! :-) I've just had an opportunity to look into my calendar schedule -- and well, as it stands right now -- I have absolutely no plans scheduled for next Sunday the 13th.

In other words -- I'm free for the beach ride! :D

Maybe we (the board members here who are planning on going) could schedule something, either before or after the ride to meet up with each other? :)

Otherwise, I just hope we're in luck with some nice weather on that day -- if it was ever like it was this past Sunday, it would be perfect! :)

how many miles is the ride, Cyn?

If the doctor clears me and says it is okay to bike ride, then I am in! :D

so 3 miles i guess.... but vicki made it sound longer.... i should email her and find out....

btw, my cute cousin is going ;):D
