ANAHEIM -- -- The Anaheim Angels Monday named Rory Markas and Terry Smith as radio play-by-play announcers for the 2002 season on 570 AM KLAC.
The announcements were made by Vice President of Advertising and Broadcast Sales John Covarrubias.
Markas comes to the Angels after recently serving as the play-by-play voice for the University of Southern California men's basketball and baseball teams on the Trojan Radio Network. He also served as a pre-game reporter for Trojans football broadcasts.

From 1994 to 1997, he was the lead announcer for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers on the Clippers radio network.
Markas brings extensive baseball broadcasting experience to the Angels, having worked as a play-by-play announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers television network (1992-94) and as a substitute radio play-by-play announcer with the Brewers radio network from 1984 to 1994.
He spent six seasons (1981-87) calling Pacific Coast League baseball, including three years with the Salt Lake City Gulls and three years with the Vancouver Canadians.
With a career that has included stints as a sports personality on KCBS 2 (1990-97) and Prime Ticket (1987-90), Markas has been honored with several broadcasting awards, including three Golden Mike Awards for radio reporting and two Associated Press Sportscasting Awards.
A native of the San Fernando Valley, Markas attended Los Angeles Valley College and Cal State Northridge. He is single and lives in Valley Village, CA.
Smith joins the Anaheim broadcast team after 19 years as the voice of the Columbus Clippers, the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate.
From 1986 to 1997, Smith served as the WBNS AM Sports Director in Columbus, Ohio. In that capacity, he also worked as a sports anchor, doing play-by-play for Ohio State University football, basketball and call-in shows.
Smith began his baseball broadcasting career in 1978, calling action for the Jacksonville Suns and also working for the Memphis Chicks in 1981-82. In Memphis, Smith worked as Sports Director on WHBQ, anchoring the morning and afternoon drive shows.
The Philadelphia, PA native attended Temple University, where he played collegiate club hockey, and Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida.
