The only surprises to me were #1, (no, I'm not surprised at his start) and #8. No way is the Rocket #1 RHP of all time. Gimme Walter Johnson, I don't what anyone says, he was the BEST!!! IMO, Roger probally ranks 4th.

Yeah, I'll buy that for a dollar. Roger is good but he's no Johnson or Young.

Johnson or Mathewson is the best right-handed pitcher

Just a hunch, this year will be his last year in Houston

1) Are you surprised by Roger Clemens' 6-0 start?
Yes, it's tough for any pitcher to go 6-0 since wins are a frickin' team stat in the first place ... Roger has pitched pretty dang well in all but two of his starts, but I've seen pitchers throw better than Roger and go 3-3 or 2-5 or something like that ... Wins are overrated for judging a pitcher's effectiveness these days.

2) How many more years do you think Clemens will continue to pitch?
I really think he'll pitch just this year ... I also thought there was no way he'd come out of retirement, so take my predictions with a few grains of salt, a lime wedge and a jigger of tequila.

3) The following pitchers produced these records at the age of 40 or beyond. Which record will most resemble Roger Clemens' 2004 final stats?
Roger will wind up about 16-9 with an ERA about 3.50. Again, keep the tequila handy when I make a predictions.

4) Clemens has a clause in his contract that allows him to stay home during road trips if he is not scheduled to pitch. How much has this factored in to his 6-0 start?
I still don't like this little perk, though I understand he might not be pitching without it ... I'm just an old fuddy-duddy that believes everyone on the team should travel together all the time.

5) Nolan Ryan struck out 5,714 batters. Roger Clemens has struck out 4,140. Can The Rocket catch him?
Yeah right, and I can catch Marion Jones in a 200-meter race if I give her a 100-meter head start :hmm: What a ridiculous question, yet more than 2% of the morons who responded think Clemens will do it ... Geez, I'd like to get in touch with those banana brains and see if I could convince them to buy some stock in PopTop Inc.

6) Which hat should Roger Clemens wear into the Hall of Fame?
Clemens and all players should wear whatever gol-derned cap they want to ... My goodness, how pious and arrogant of the HOF to decide that so players "don't sell out" ... What hypocritical and arrogant asses the HOF is to make that decision for the players, it was their career, let them decide at the end what cap to wear.

7) Who's the all-time ''King of the Hill'' in Texas?
Nolan Ryan ... Sorry, I know Clemens grew up in Texas and I'm happy & proud to call him a Texan ... But he wasn't born here, and Nolan was ... Gotta' give the natives a nod when you can.

8) Who's the best right-handed pitcher ever?
The best I've seen are Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens. Statistically, it's awful tough to argue for anyone other than Big Train Johnson. I know the numbers say Johnson, Mathewson, Young and Alexander have them all beat, but I think Gibby-Tom Terrific-Express-Rocket could hold their own against any other foursome.

Great answers Willie:thumbsup:

Your answer to #8 makes me think if Ray's post of Clemens being the best RHP in the last 50 years is justified or not??

What do you guys think??

Is it Clemens, Gibson, Seaver or Ryan? All of whom have pitched in the last 50 years....

Who's the best?

Give me Gibson any day over Clemens. Yes Clemens is a great pitcher but he doesnt have the respect off all the hitters or fear of all the hitters like Gibson had....

That is in the past 50 years. Johnson is the best and Ryan is better than Clemens.

See I was thinking Gibby as well but I am not so sure..

Clemens does have some impressive #'s...

The thing that stands out from a career point with Clemens, besides the K's and wins is his era compared to the league average during his career.... Over a run difference...

If Pedro stays healthy and keeps up the same pace it will be a tough call on who the best RHP I have ever seen....

The difference in era is almsost 2 for Pedro:eek:

I have never seen that big over a difference in career era vs league average era....

Oh ya for any pitcher to be talked about or even argued about being the best ever you have to have some great numbers.

But the reason I have picked Gibson is that to here hitters like Willy Mays, Erine Banks and the great hitters of the time saying You dont dig in against this guy. If you do you will get drilled. The great hitters of the day feared Gibby and I just dont think that fear is in todays hitters with Roger.... But also today hitters can go up in the batters box in a suit of armor and that sucks....

Roger Clemens has a case for being the greatest RHP of all time. He is still adding to his record, and doing it in style.

Of course, I would love for Clemens to wear the Blue Jay hat into the HOF. He won back to back Cy Youngs with Toronto, and rejuvenated his career there. His years in Toronto may have been the two best years of his career.

the only batters who dont respect clemens are the idiots. The reason why i pick clemens over any of the others in the past 50 years is one simple reason: gibson, drysdale, seaver, etc pitched in a predominantly pitchers era. Most of Clemens career has been in the biggest hitting era since the early 30's.

put gibson in today's era, and he doesnt have anywhere close to the ERA he had back then.

That's my thought, too. Gibson's era was clearly a pitching friendly time. Gibson was unquestionably dominant, but Clemens has been impressive in what seems like a more pro-hitter generation.

Maybe this is another way to view the question. It's Game Seven of the World Series. Which RHP do you want to start for your team? If it's only the last fifty years, I'd probably take Gibson, then Pedro, then Clemens.

When Pedro still has his quality fastball, (four years ago?) he was the most dominant RHP I ever saw, including Roger and Nolan.

It is odd that we might be seeing the best LHP (Randy Johnson) and RHP (Clemens) in the last fifty years amidst this profilic offensive era.

I would agree B...

Johnson and Clemens are the 2 best respective LHP and RHP career wise I have ever seen and just may be the best in the last 50 or so years given the dominant offensive era we are in...

Pedro when its all said and done may be up there with Clemens but hopefully he still has some years left to show that...

Game 7 of a WS, I'd take Gibson as my RHP....

A LHP, I may actually consider Johnson....

Anyone know the biggest difference in era from a career standpoint??

Pedro without looking into it much has the biggest I have ever seen...

His era is 1.92 lower than the average era during his career... I have yet to find any bigger difference... Again though, I have not really looked into that much...

When I get some time I will look at some others to see if there was a bigger difference....
