I see how it is...
our former closer can beat us.
But their former closer can't beat his old team.
Sigh :sigh: , these two games are hard to watch. WAKE up, bats!
If I am going to be bed-ridden the least the Mets could do is WIN! :eviltongu

Katrina, you have to remember......the closer that beat us today was not in a big game......

yes, no pressure, but now was not the time for Looper to blow a save....

hello my name is Luis ,huge met fan
well Benitez has looked amazing this year BUT lets see what he does in big games for the marlins down the stretch
i was listening to some marlin broadcaster on the radio (wfan)the other day and he was defending Benitez the way some newyork radio hosts defended him earlier in his met career before the big game blows
i feel bad for the marlin broadcaster who keeps bringing up benitez' record and blwon save percentage
they have to learn the hard way to look past numbers and see where those blwon saves come
sure he had only 25 or so blwon saves for us but they were BIG blown saves
send these people a tape of the 2001 september run
2 weekends in a row against atlanta benitez came in to blow crucial games and we all now about his postseason stats .....
Looper looks good though for us, unforunately we can't score with a triple A lineup we send out there everyday

I know all you guys think that Benitez cant save the big games, which may indeed be true as his past suggests this but lets also remember that he blew many games in April last season which IMO led to the downfall...
All games IMO that you are leading in the 9th are important to a degree... So him not blowing the games this year is certainly different than him blowing games last year during this same time.... He may just be more comfortable down in Miami.. Regardless, he is a dominant closer right now....

Your absolutely right James and may I add...playing a team in your division that's only 4 games behind you and your trying to stay in first place IS A BIG GAME.
Good for Papi, I hope he wins the Firemens relief award....AGAIN.

i am sorry but i can never root for that coward, this is the same guy who when blowing a big game would sneak out the backdoor so he wouldn't have to face reporters because of his weak mental state
he makes me sick and i can only hope the yankees destroy him in interleague play because it's obvious we can't touch him

I don't think the Marlins play the Yanks in interleague this year....
I'm not a big fan of his either but he has been lights out for the Marlins thus far...

Let me ask a question, if that's how you define a coward then what would you have called Keith Hernandez in 1986 when you read how he had removed his uniform, went to Davey Johnson's office to smoke cigarettes and drink beer before game 6 was over? And had to quickly dress when they rallied to comeback.
What about Mike Piazza hiding out in the showers for over an hour in Atlanta in 99 instead of facing reporters?

well the part that makes him more of a coward was that he would leave his teamates to answer questions about losing games HE blew
as for piazza ,i never heard that story but for the most part ive never heard any reporters say piazza was caught running out of the clubhouse to avoid reporters
he always seems to stay and answer questions win or lose, maybe he did that back in 99 but i haven't heard one story about him running out on his teamates since that incident
benitez would do that on a regular basis even during the regular season ,remember how bobby V would always treat mando as a baby and would hide him from reporters....man that is low
i also don't know about the keith hernandez issue but does he not own a ring to the last championship the mets have seen? he deserves a little slack

I still have bitter feelings toward Benitez ever since WS Game 1 in 2000. If the Mets had won that game in Yankee Stadium, it could have turned out differently. Who knows? :notme:
I like Looper, he looks goos so far, just would have liked him to KO the Marlins.
Ex-Mets always seem to kill us...sheesh!

Ok so it was alright for Hernandez to evade the reporters AND not support his team by hiding in the managers office. HE WOULD NOT HAVE that ring if it weren't for his TEAM busting thier collective asses in game 6.
This is a well documented fact on Hernandez and game 6 that's been written about many times.
It was also written in 99 about Piazza and the hour + shower to avoid reporters. Can I find those articles online? Probably not since it's so old BUT I remember the comments of Mike being "pruned" from being in water so long....then the famous car rental incident and him driving aimlessly through the South visiting Famous Civil war battle grounds and lick his wounds.
So don't JUST pick on Benitez, he's not the first and certainly won't be the last Mets player to avoid NY Media after a bad outing.
It's so funny how Mets fans can be so "what have you done for me lately" and forget the 167 saves and 456 strikeouts in 5 years with the club.

well maybe im so bitter because i was too young to appreciate the 86' series and the 2000 series was probably the closest i was ever going to get to seeing a met championship

Ex Mets also seem to have better luck at pitching no hitters and or perfect games after leaving the Mets.

Alrighty then...
You can blame that heart of the order batting a collective mendoza line practically (Alfonzo .143, Ventura .150....)
OR that the starters were horrible (Hampton had a 6.00 ERA in the WS) and out of the pen Wendell and White were the worst.
But to place the ENTIRE blame of the 2000 WS on Armando Benitez is ridiculous.

no the blame is not solely on benitez, but you have to admit IF the mets had won game one that might have given them some kind of confidence that they can beat the yankees
another play that sticks in my head is the "homer" zeile almost hit that lead to timo being thrown out at homeplate
zeile was absolutely on fire during the WS and missed about 3 homers by inches......but so it goes when playing the yankees

Had we won game 1 all it would have meant was the Skanks would have won in 6 games instead of 5....that's it.
The 2000 team was good, not good enough. I think the 99 team was better. Hands down.
