Minor Leagues | Barons, Blue Rocks lose

COMPILED BY THE INQUIRER

MOOSIC, Pa. - Luis Figueroa doubled in two runs in the top of the seventh inning as the Indianapolis Indians beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, 2-1, last night in the International League.

Lynchburg 10, Wilm. 7

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Brad Eldred and Avelino Asprilla hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a four-run rally as the Hillcats beat the Blue Rocks in the Carolina League.

Rain washed out games involving four area minor-league or independent teams and forced another to be suspended.

An afternoon game in Lakewood, N.J., between the BlueClaws and the Lexington Legends was suspended after two rain delays totaling more than 31/2 hours.

The BlueClaws' three-game win streak remains intact even though they were trailing, 3-2, in the bottom half of the sixth inning when the game was halted.

It will be recorded as a suspended game, meaning the individual records will count but there will not be a winning and losing team. The game will not be reflected in the South Atlantic League standings.

In the Eastern League, a morning game in Reading between the Phillies and the Bowie Baysox was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader beginning at 6:05 p.m. June 18.

The Trenton Thunder's game against the Binghamton Mets in New York will be part of a doubleheader on Aug. 6, with the starting time to be determined.

In the Atlantic League, the Atlantic City Surf's visit to the Somerset Patriots in New Jersey was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader, with two seven-inning games starting at 6:05 tonight.

The Camden Riversharks' Atlantic League game against the Bears in Newark, N.J., also will be part of a doubleheader at 6:05 tonight, with two seven-inning games.
