View Full Version : The Red Sox suck and here's why

first of all, the Red Sox suck because they have a manager that doesn't know when to take out pitchers. I thought he was alright the first two months, but he's starting to show his real colors! He's got no idea what he's doing out there. And don't give me the "the red sox have thee best era in the league" crap. they may now, but its been going down steadily, and we're going to have one of the worst eras in the league if this keeps up.
second, Ortiz is in a major slump. he is 0-13 in the past three games, including a disgisting 0-6 performance on may 30th. 0 for freaking 6!
Third: Kevin Millar only hits the ball when there is no one on base. I only noticed this a few days ago, but the guy seems to only hit when the bases are empty. in fact, he's hitting .304 in 102 at bats with the bases empty. all of his homeruns are solo shots. and by the way, he only has 16 rbi! on the whole season! pokey reese has 17!
Fourth: may not be the worst thing, but why does Crapso end up playing for pokey reese every three days or so? Francona should have noticed that he can't hit, or field!
anything else? talk to me.

one more thing: we have two people hitting over .300: manny, and varitek. Best offense in the league my botox!

i know we played well in the past, but the way we are playing now i'm surprised we even have 20 wins. nothing is going right for us right now.

Our starting pitching SUCKS.
We have 2 good ones, Pedro/Schill, and one decent one, Wake.
Lowe and Arrojo are GOD AWFUL.
We have no mop up guys for the pen.
Terry Francona is a JOKE. CLUELESS.
Losing Nomah and Nixon has KILLED us. Trot will be gone for some time still. Losing Mueller was deadly. This offense is pathetic.
It's Ortiz, Manny, and 7 outs. :eviltongu
We are in SERIOUS trouble, and management seems clueless to it.

arroyo isn't aweful. far from it actually, I thought he pitched really well, considering the sox could only score 4 runs, and his defense didn't really help. Had francona taken him out before Vlad's at bat, everyone would have said how great a performance it was. now everyone says he sucks. it't really not his fault.
Can you actually expect the angel lineup to be shut down by arroyo for three times? two times is fine, but after that, they get to know him, and they know what to do. francona should have realized it, and taken him out.

Arroyo has given up 23 runs in the last 22 innings. That's not awful? HE HIT 3 EFFIN GUYS IN ONE INNING!
He was given a 4-1 lead and could not hold it. He threw 99 pitches in 5 innings. That's awful. He has been crushed in 3 straight starts. CRUSHED.
6 runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings isn't awful?
Yes, he shoulda been pulled at 4-4, but regardless, he has been horrid. He was in trouble all night.

maybe I just like him better than lowe, i dunno :) damn biases

I like him too, but he's a #5 starter, and not a very good one. Normally, this is okay, but being that Lowe is so bad, we need an ERA under 5 from Arroyo, and we're not getting it.
We need pitching. NOW.
GET CRACKING THEO!
The June Swoon has begun.

Everything said is true, but you know what? Even with the pitching problems, injuries, and batting slumps, the Sox are STILL flip flopping with the Skanks for the AL lead. Lowe and Arroyo will turn it around, Ortiz, Millar will get hot and all injured players will be back. Meanwhile, over on the dark side, the All Star lineup is not all it's cracked up to be, their pitching is worse than yours and we all know Brown's reservation on the DL is booked. So, you've got em where you want em!
Besides...it could be worse...you could be rooting for the Mets :D

point taken :)
But if we keep playing the way we are now, we won't be flip flopping with the yankees. they will continue to play well (AHHHHGGGG!) and we will lose. Boy, when the season began, I was so excited to have both perdro and schilling and wakefield, and lowe, now its more like...schilling! our starting pitching may look great on paper, but it hasn't been up to par this season.
:ot: By the way, any of you guys know about those red sox pins they've been advertising? not that im collecting them, but i noticed that Millar isn't on them. Also, I recently bought MVP baseball 2004, and Millar isn't on the roster there either. anyone know why?

does he have some kind of thing where he doesnt let anyone use his name or something? or does no one care about him because hes such a crappy player (my thought :))

It has something to do with the union. I dont think he is in it and so he cant be in the advertizing or anything along those lines... But no he isnt doing what Bonds is doing it is just he dont have a choice...
Thedatch

how can he not be in the union? I thought you had to be...but that does explain it. thanks

The 1994 strike set in motion a chain of events that Major League Baseball and its fans still feels to this day. One of them was the use of replacement players during Spring Training (1995). These players - like them or not - crossed the proverbial picket line and became forever known as the replacements.
Each of the players below, according to the Players Association, are not allowed union membership. They each are given representation during arbitration or other matters, they all receive pension benefits, but they are not part of the actual union - which essentially means they do not receive any licensing monies and they cannot vote on union matters.
Each Major League team was permitted to carry thirty-two replacement players on their rosters for Opening Day and twenty-five could be used in any game. No waivers were going to be used, no disabled lists, and salaries were set at $115,000 (plus a $5,000 signing bonus, a $5,000 bonus for making the Opening Day roster, and up to three players could have a contract as high as $275,000).
When the strike finally came to an end, Major League players had a three week Spring Training and replacement players were either sent to the Minor Leagues, terminated, or in some cases given a team travel bag to load their belongings in before leaving to their homes. However, the following players have made it to "the show" and are considered non-union replacement players.

no way! that's kinda stupid of the union not to let them in, even after 10 years. I was wondering why daubach wasn't in the roster either. It all fits. That's really strange. thanks for diggin that up :)

Curt Schilling is ok. Then again, he's the reason Francona is here, so I guess he does suck.

Our whole team sucks. And if somehow this sucky team makes the playoffs, they'll still suck cuz they won't have won 162 games. And if this godawful team wins the World Series in 7 games, then damnit they'll suck for not sweeping the other team. And if they do sweep them, they'll suck because they didn't make it exciting with a game 7.

see, ordinarily sarcasm is tough to spot on paper, but not in the case. Ok, so it's obvious we disagree on a few things, but it's allright. it could be worse, you could be rooting for the yankees. We're all red sox fans here :)

I just hate it when the fans get so down on our team. Think about fans of teams like the Devil Rays and Tigers, if they Red Sox ever turn into a team like that, I find it impossible to believe that the majority of you will remain fans.

That's where you are wrong Soxrule. If we had a 25 mill payroll and tickets I could afford I wouldn't care if we lost every game.
When you charge the highest prices in the game, have the 2nd highest payroll in the game, and continue to hire poor managers, I get pissed.
I have followed this team longer than you have been alive. Many, many losing seasons. When I spend thru the nose, you're goddamn right I want a good product.

And I wasn't refering to you. Not everything I say is directed to you and you only, and what I say isn't always the truth. It's my opinion and I stand by it. I don't think that a lot of people here could be fans if this team started to lose, bad. You may not be in that group, but that's how I feel, and it's depressing to see this.

when you care deeply about your team, you get pissed when something goes wrong. they might as well have kept grady with the way i've seen some francona games managed.
when baseball is your passion, you have every right to boo, you have every right to vent when needed. We all love our teams, we just want the best. And when we dont get it, we get pissed. I dont see the problem with showing the passion.

I know you weren't. Listen, when I was 18, I was you. I'd get BULLSHIT at people who whined about the team.
But...I was 18, I hadn't spent 35 years suffering yet. ;)
I am emotional about my teams, good and bad.
