Look at the format you're playing in.

In "Basic" the value is TD's and maybe a few bonus points for yardage plateaus.

A combination league, what I call a league that gives equal weight to TDs and performance (yardage, catches, etc.)

Then there are performance leagues, where they actually award more points for yards, catches, carries, passing attemps, completions, etc, than for TDs.

If you haven't played in a format before, make sure you check out every player, especially as your filling the middle of your roster. Certain players are much more valuable in a particular format.

For example, take the Vikings RBs. Michael Bennett is very valuable in a performance league, while Moe Williams, the designated TD guy, would have greater value in a basic league.

Don't forget about those third down backs in combo and performance leagues. Guys like Kevin Faulk are worth quite a few points under these scoring methods. As a third back to fill in on byes in a shallow league , or as even a second back in deep leagues, these players have value. in some leagues you can start a third RB, or WR, kind of a swing position. Third down backs are taylor made for that slot.

TC's Take - Part 1

If you play in a Basic League, you're pretty much only concerned with players who score TD's or throw TD's. There may be a few yardage bonus points available, but you win or lose with scores. To win in this format, your goal is to identify the designated goal line guy on certain teams who are flying under everyone else's radar, whether it's a TE or RB. Everyone knows about Preist Holmes, they may miss Moe Williams.

There are some basic leagues that score TD passes as 4 pts. or sometimes even 6 pts. - Make sure you know your rules. If they get 6 pts. per, then move the bigtime QBs to the top of your draft/auction lists.
