LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed right-hander Craig House off waivers from the New York Mets on Tuesday and placed him on their 40-man roster.

The 24-year-old House was traded to the Mets last month from the Colorado Rockies as part of a three-team deal with Milwaukee.

House pitched for Triple-A Colorado Springs last season, going 2-2 with six saves and a 4.45 ERA in 54 games. He struck out 62 batters in 58 1-3 innings, and has 180 strikeouts in 139 career innings in the minor leagues.

House appeared in 16 games for Colorado in the 2000 season, going 1-1 with a 7.24 ERA in 13 2-3 innings. He was drafted by the Rockies in the 12th round of the June 1999 free-agent draft.

The Dodgers had 39 players on their 40-man roster before the move.

Damn, I was really hoping the Mets would give this kid a shot and let him develop more in the minors...Could be a real keeper given the right pitching coaches to work with....

This surprises me, also. I thought House was the guy with the most up-side that the Rockies let go to NY. Just what we need - another fire-baller in the NL West. When (not "if") House comes around, somebody's going to have one hell of a pitcher.
