Minor Leagues | Harrisburg beats Trenton, 8-7

HARRISBURG - Behind by seven runs after one inning, the Trenton Thunder mounted a furious comeback that fell one hit short yesterday, in an 8-7 loss to the Harrisburg Senators in the Eastern League.

Trenton trailed, 8-5, entering the ninth but Aaron Rifkin singled in a run to make it 8-6 and a sacrifice fly by Mitch Jones (who had three RBIs in the game) closed the gap to one.

But with the bases loaded, Senators closer Chris Schroder struck out Sandy Madera to earn his fifth save.

Trenton stayed in the game with excellent relief pitching by Rik Currier, who worked 51/3 one-hit, shutout innings.

The Thunder started the comeback with a solo homer by Jones in the second, his 12th of the season.

Teuris Olivares slammed a two-run homer in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Reading 5, Norwich 4

READING - Danny Gonzalez drew a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phillies the Eastern League win over the Navigators.

The Philadelphia Phillies' Placido Polanco played second on a rehabilitation assignment and went 2 for 3 with two singles.

Louisville 7, Scranton 6

MOOSIC, Pa. - Kenny Kelly's RBI single in the top of the ninth gave the River Bats the win over the Red Barons in the International League.

Wilmington 9, Salem 0

WILMINGTON - Devon Lowery struck out six in seven shutout innings and Drew Endicott pitched the final two innings without giving up a hit as the Blue Rocks stopped the Avalanche in the Carolina League.

Lake County 9, Lakewood 2

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Chris De La Cruz collected four hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Captains past the Blue Claws in the South Atlantic League.

Somerset 7, Camden 3

Ryan Jones hit two solo home runs, but the Riversharks got outscored by the Patriots in an Atlantic League game at Campbell's Field.

Atlantic City 7, Newark 3

ATLANTIC CITY - Orlando Miller singled in two runs in the bottom of the eighth to help the Surf rally and beat the Bears in the Atlantic League.
