The cantidates:
1. Darryl Kile... Features one of the best curveballs in the league, and his fastball-curveball combo is unstoppable on a two-strike count. He's been the main main for the past few seasons, and has proven his durability and consistency.
2. Matt Morris... Notching more wins than everyone but Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling (whom he tied), Matt Morris has become one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball when pitching at home. He has more tools to work with than Kile, as Morris has a hard 95mph heater, one of the better sinking 2 seamers, and a fantastic power curve. To keep hitters honest he does have a descent changeup as well.
3. Bud Smith... While he doesn't show off on the radar guns, he uses his good fastball and pinpoint control to set up a very good curveball and incredible changeup. He has a veteran approach to his game, he knows he has a good selection of pitches to choose from, and effectively deals it out with more success than many rookies could have. Although it almost seems untrue, he has more he can learn and will be only 22 on Opening Day
4. Rick Ankiel... No one can deny he has the best stuff some guys have ever seen. Instead of just throwing things with massive breaks, I bet he'd be more effective throwing his hard breaking 96-97 mph fastball in the zone and let the hitters figure out what to do with it. If he starts to challenge hitters more and gets ahead in the count consistently than he could be a possible Hall of Famer.
5. Other... Woody Williams showed leadership and it is no coincidence that the Cards started turning thier season around when he arrived. Garret Stephenson can win 15 games if he comes back succesfully and shows his 2000 form....Could Jim Journell pull an Albert Pujols?
