Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Kenny Rogers tossed a three-hitter, becoming the first 10-game winner in the American League, as the Texas Rangers beat the Houston Astros, 3-1, in the opener of the Silver Boot series at Ameriquest Field.

Rogers (10-2) allowed only one run, struck out two and walked just one to join the Astros' Roger Clemens as the only double-digit winners in the majors. The lefty threw only 90 pitches, inducing 13 ground-ball outs and 12 flyouts.

Carlos Beltran made his Astros debut, recording two of Houston's three hits. He also scored the lone run for the Astros, who have dropped two of three. Beltran was traded to the Astros from Kansas City on Thursday as part of a three-team deal that sent former Houston closer Octavio Dotel to the Oakland Athletics.

Alfonso Soriano had a homer and David Dellucci drove in a run for the Rangers, who have won seven in a row.

On the heels of an 18-inning marathon win over Seattle on Thursday, Texas got a big outing from Rogers, who recorded his second complete game of the season.

"You can't dial it up any better than that," Texas manager Buck Showalter said. "I don't know what more you can do for a club than what Kenny did tonight."

After Beltran doubled in the seventh, Rogers retired the final nine batters he faced to secure his 35th career complete game.

Texas had used seven relief pitchers on Thursday.

"Doing this tonight after what we did yesterday, says a lot about the character of this team," said Rogers. "To play like this after yesterday says something."

Wade Miller (7-7) suffered the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two but walked six to fall for the fourth time in six decisions. The righthander had won his previous two decisions after dropping three in a row.

The Rangers got ahead of the Astros in the second. With Mark Teixeira on first thanks to a one-out single, Dellucci tripled him home for the 1-0 lead.

Texas, which left the bases loaded in the third, got another run in the fourth after again filling the bases. Adam Everett's fielding error on a Soriano grounder to short allowed Rod Barajas to score.

Everett, starting just his second game since returning from a hamstring injury suffered on June 14, charged the slow roller, but couldn't get a handle. It was his seventh error of the season.

Houston cut the lead in half in the seventh. Beltran began the frame with a double. He then moved to third on a fly out by Lance Berkman and scored on Jeff Kent's sacrifice fly to center.

Over the final 7 1/3 innings, Rogers retired 22 of the final 23 batters he faced.

Soriano, however, answered back in the home half of the frame, lifting a solo homer to center.

With the acquisition of Beltran, Craig Biggio was moved from center field to left field, while Berkman moved from left to right field. Beltran also hit third in the lineup while Jeff Bagwell fell to the sixth spot.

He's been pretty impressive this year. Wonder if he's All-Star worthy?
