   Olympic Stadium hosted the first major league game under an operational retractable roof. Built in 1976 to host the Summer Olympic Games, Olympic Stadium was meant to have a retractable roof when it opened, but construction costs delayed that feature. Not until 1987 was the tower which housed the cables meant to retract the roof, finally completed. Yet not until two years later, on April 4, 1989, was the retractable roof feature operable. On June 5, 1989, the retractable roof was used for the first time. Later that month, the Toronto Blue Jays played their first game in the SkyDome, which had a fully operational retractable roof that closed in less than 25 minutes.
