COMPILED BY THE INQUIRER

READING - Kevin Nicholson hit a two-run home run and Bryan Bullington pitched seven innings for the victory as the Altoona Curve beat the Reading Phillies, 3-1, last night in the Eastern League.

Bullington allowed four hits and one earned run. He walked three and struck out two. Jeff Miller pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save for Altoona, which has won 20 of its last 25 games.

Robinson Tejeda took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs, all earned, over six innings.

The Curve scored all their runs in the top of the sixth. The Phillies got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on Ryan Howard's RBI single.

Earlier in the day, Howard was named the league's player of the week. The 24-year-old first baseman batted .444 over seven games and hit six homers in that stretch.

Howard, who also won the award a week ago and was the Florida State League's most valuable player last season, leads the Eastern League with 28 homers and 77 RBIs.
