I gotta admit, I'm rather picky with movies. Which means, I usually do enough "research" before I see a movie so I tend not to see movies I end up disliking (there are certain movies I wouldn't even bother approaching since I just KNOW I won't like them!)

Anyway, one movie I did go see and didn't particularly like was the remake of "Planet of the Apes". I'm a fan of the original, which probably didn't help matters, since I thought the remake was really dumb.

But, at least I was able to enjoy some of the views and the music... :D

i will only reccomend this movie if you have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do

this is a grease immitation but not as many songs, okay this movie is about justin and his friend who are some kind of party promoters from pennsylvania i think
it's funny because thye try to act like cool "playas" and it seems so forced it makes the acting comical

ok this takes place in florida during spring break kelly and her friends come down from texas to meet guys , oddly enough kelly is an aspiring singer trying to get her career going

kelly's bimbo friends are so excited by all the "hot guys" they unknowingly leave her alone
same thing with justin and his friends

kelly and justin bump into each other and it's an instant attraction, she gives him her phone number, stupid justin loses it
he asks kelly's friend (super ho) for kelly's number, she lies to him and gives him her number(super ho) instead

she wants justin because he keeps rejecting her and tells justin kelly isn't interested in her .........

yada yada yada justin won't quit till he has kelly, a few dance and horrible lip synching singing scenes later ,the truth is revealed kelly finds out justin really likes her
they fall in love, another bad song and dance scene and the movie is over

there is more but it's so bad ,oh yea kelly's friend falls in love with a poor waiter guy and gets him fired

he gets mad at her, weird because like he can't find another waiting job?? wtf

anyway he forgives her they fall in love blah blah blah

The worst I've seen is something I'm sure no one else has seen. It was called Blood Lake. It was a cheap Friday the 13th rip off that look like it was filmed with a camcorder.

OMG.

Mindhunters, directed by Renny Harlin. Yikes. I saw it at a screening. I don't think it was ever released...... or maybe released for 2 minutes.

Actors I've never seen before being stalked on an island as they're trying to learn special FBI skills........ the actors that I did care about in it...... Christian Slater, Val Kilmer....... were killed off early, so then I just had to sit there, thinking, "Just die. All of you. I hope everyone gets killed off." :hmm:

Also hated The Piano, the one that won all the awards several years ago........ with Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel. Geez. Yawn.

And I couldn't stand Requiem For A Dream, came out about 2000, with Ellen Burstyn. I hated the directing. Talk about hitting you over the head........ all sorts of wild camera shots...... like a music video........while Ellen Burstyn's character goes into her diet-pill induced visions. :hmm: I was in the minority, though. Most of my friends thought it was "Brilliant!!! Ohmigod!!! It was BRILLIANT!!!"

Yuck.

since we're talking about critically acclaimed movies that we hate :D i also hated The Missing  directed by ron howard and starring one of my favorite actresses, Cate Blanchett.

it was a painful experience for me, having to sit there and watch the whole movie. i hated it. i saw it on Thanksgiving :hmm: right after we stuffed our faces and could barely move. not fun watching human bodies being roasted (ok, so it was implied--but STILL) i hated it.

LMAO!!! :laff:

I liked The Missing. It hasn't been one of my favorites, but I thought it was okay. Definitely can understand the after-Thanksgiving-dinner thing, though. :D

Well, we can both agree on The Piano, though. Soooooo boring. And the thing is, I'm usually not fond of Holly Hunter...... I really don't like her voice....... and here she was playing a mute and I still didn't like her! :D

i don't like holly hunter either! (nothing personal holly) but golly jeepers is her voice annoying!!

i'm trying to think if i ever liked her in ONE movie.... surely there must be ONE that i didn't dislike her in......

but yeah The Piano was THE WORST!! ughhh!

also, i really didn't appreciate having to watch harvey keitel NEKKED!! :scared:

:laff:

True!!!

I think I actually liked her in Always, with Richard Dreyfuss..... where he was a forest-fire pilot who died and came back and she was devastated that he had died, and he wanted to make sure she had a happy life. I sort of didn't mind her in that. I think it was because I liked the rest of the cast and Steven Spielberg had directed it, and I'll like anything he directs.

I think that was the only one where she didn't annoy me, though.

I love Holly Hunter and golly jeepers is her voice sexy! :lust: She could probably get me hot just reading off the ingredients on a bottle of Windex.

Worst movie I ever saw? Hmm, hard one to answer ... The last one I recall getting up and finding the exit sign was Pulp Fiction though I know most people really liked it ... Difficult to know if it really was the worst since I didn't see but maybe 30 minutes at most ... That Babe Ruth movie with John Goodman was pretty much a zero ... And from what I can see as I flip through the channels, everything they show on Lifetime is bad.

Oh, we have a Holly Hunter fan. :)

I'm not a Quentin Tarantino fan, so I haven't even seen Pulp Fiction. Maybe I should break down and see it, and then it would be one of those I could put into the other thread about movies you didn't think you were going to like but ended up liking.

But...... naaah. Don't think so. :D

Now Lifetime movies. Bad, but in a trashy, fascinating way. I get so hooked on those.

Oh, we have a Holly Hunter fan. :)

Yep, I've always liked her, and I really liked the Always flick as well which is weird because I really liked John Goodman in that movie and loved the scenes of Dreyfuss walking in that forest with his angel-slash-barber (Audrey Hepburn).

Here's a totally weird movie that I thought I liked when I saw it when it came out (1970 or so), bought it about a year ago and watched it, and it was just absolutely horrible and hard to follow: The Magic Christian with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr ... There's some funny bits, a few cameos, but it's just too strange.

Ohmigosh. The Magic Christian! I remember when the Beatles broke up and there was Ringo making this movie on his own. I was so upset by the Beatles breaking up I couldn't bring myself to see Ringo going out being a movie star. :laff:

Now...... back to Always. I think my favorite scene is the whole scene where he gives her the girly outfit for her birthday. And she was all, "A dress?! You bought me a dress!" (Okay. I guess I liked her in that movie. )

:laff: I really think I like every scene in that movie and the job everyone did acting/directing/editing/producing ... Just one of those little romantic-adventure-comedy-drama's that really caught my heart and is totally under-appreciated by the general public and the critics (probably because it doesn't fit in some neatly defined genre).

Here's an oldie but a baddie on my list: An Officer and a Gentleman :barf:

That's like me and Cannery Row and The Tempest (w/Raul Julia). No one else, including the critics, thought much of these movies, but I absolutely love them. I'd rank both in my Top 10.

No kidding, and I'm ok with some of the real sappy-thick or sappy-cute romance flicks. Just thought that entire movie was over-acted, if that's possible.

That's like me and Cannery Row...
That's the second case of "interwoveness" for me in this thread ... The first was me not liking John Goodman in The Babe but thinking he was perfect for Always ... This time I really thought Debra Winger was horrible in Officer & A Gentlman but really liked her in Cannery Row ... That was a good movie, Toy, really helps when you start with a Steinbeck story, of course ... The movie would've been garbage without Nolte really playing a good Doc from the story ... And the guy who played Mack, dang!, his last name is Walsh, can't remember the other bits, he has a name like J.Edgar or J.Michael, something like that --- anyway, he was excellent!

I thought I was the only one who wasn't thrilled with Pulp Fiction.

I think the worst movie I ever saw was Death BecomesHer. Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis, and Goldie Hawn. With a cast like that you'd think it would be really good. Well, guess again. Stupid stupid stupid. I was still living at home when I rented it. My parents and I would always trade rentals, but I couldn't get this one out of my house fast enough! I refused to let my parents watch it. I even cringe when I happen to see it listed on some cable channel.

M. Emmitt Walsh. Juhn Hustons narration...

Thanks, Toy. Walsh has only been in like bazillions of movies and TV shows, you'd think I'd remember entire name.

Here's something weird, though. Until you said something about John Huston's narration, I'd forgotten about there even being a narrator  I think that not thinking about his narration is a good thing, means I followed the acting and props and other stuff closer :notme: Eh, that's my story anyway :D

School Daze

A movie that started off very slow and it only got slower from there.

All the movies about that dog doing sports.. Toby is it? And the other Animal/sport movies that it spawned. Monkeys on snowboards, dogs playing volleyball ect. They all have the same plot: Crappy team + animal = championship team, doesn't it get obvious to anyone else? They ARE aimed at kids... but that doesnt mean they cant be good.
