A wanted to make a couple of pithy observations from today's game.

1. Can we put a big S on Beltran's jersey? He has two home runs and a stolen base in the series. He is basically hitting better than .400 and has about a .500 OBP since becoming an Astro.

2. Craig Biggio is getting old but today he proves why he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Great players follow up an embarassment with a great performance because of their pride. Mediocre players just fade away. He may not be what he used to be, but he still has the pride to come back with a great performance when he needs to.

I rarely ever interject stuff on different sports, but I read this today on the Rockets trade and found it to be rich. Imagine Steve Francis and Cattino Mobley telling everyone how to win basketball games. Apparently, they (having played in five playoff games) know more than Tracy McGrady (having played in several series) about winning. Good riddance Stevie. Try not to commit ten turnovers a game next year.

Glad to see you give Biggio a nod, Scott. Amazingly, the fact Clemens did NOT get his 11th win (a totally bogus stat for pitchers these days in my book, totally bogus) is a bigger story to ESPN.com than Biggio hitting two solo shots, each of which gave Houston a lead ... Not to mention the first of the two extended his NL record to 37 as far as leadoff homers ... If you want to find that stat out, you need to read all the way to the 11th paragraph (or 11 sentence since ESPN.com seems to think each sentence should always have its own paragraph :hmm: ).

Absotively, posi-frickin-lutely HUGE game in Wrigley tomorrow!

A sloppy, sloppy job of editing can be found in the last line of this AP story posted at ESPN.com (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=240630116):

"Houston's victory was its first over the Cubs after losing the last five to Chicago."

The information is correct, but misleading ... It was Houston's first in what way, this season, first in Chicago in the last 6 games, what? ... When they play tomorrow, it will be the 12th time the two teams have played this season ... Right now the season record is 6-5 in Chicago's favor ... I think the sentence is just poorly written and too wordy, probably why it's misleading to me ... Should have been worded, "Houston's victory stopped a five-game losing streak to Chicago."

Sorry, just in a picky mood tonight. :)

That was bad phrasing. The Astros, Cubs, and Cards have played fairly evenly this year (at least from our point of view). This is what baseball is all about.
