I will be in Arizona this weekend, so here are the midseason grades a few games early.

Brad Ausmus- C-. He is terrible offensively, but we knew that anyway.

Jeff Bagwell- C-. He hasn't been as bad as we think but he must pick it up in the second half.

Jeff Kent- B. He has been what we expected and is on pace to drive in 100 runs for the seventh time in his career.

Morgan Ensberg- D. He has a respectable average and on base percentage but his lack of slugging is one of the things bogging down this offense.

Adam Everett- B. I know this is shocking but Everett has .658 OPS.

Craig Biggio- B+. He has been much better than expected offensively. He can't field anymore but we already knew that.

Carlos Beltran- A. If you add in his KC numbers he is on pace to hit 35 HR and drive in 120 runs with 30 SB.

Lance Berkman- A. Lost in the malaise is a very special season for Berkman. He has a .458 OBP which would be enough for anyone to notice if it wasn't for Bonds' ludicrous numbers

Raul Chavez- C. He has been decent enough overall but his offensive numbers are deplorable. He has had some inspired defensive plays though.

Mike Lamb- A. I hate to admit it, but Jimy needs to consider playing him more at third.

Jose Vizcaino- B. He is anemic offensively, but we already knew that. He has done exactly what has been expected of him.

Orlando Palmeiro- C-. I never liked this signing and his numbers are proving me right.

Jason Lane- B-. He gets an extra grade for being professional even though Jimy and Gerry have bounced him in between the starting lineup and end of the bench.

Roy Oswalt- B-. The numbers don't say it but he has eaten innings and had some hard luck problems because of a bad manager.

Andy Pettitte- C-. Can you blame him for being injury prone? I don't know but he has been as advertised when healthy. We need him in the second half if we have any chance.

Roger Clemens- A+. 10-2 with a 2.63 ERA and over 100 innings. Can't ask anything more from this guy.

Wade Miller- B+. He has a 3.36 ERA folks. With better control he will be the second best pitcher on this staff.

Tim Redding- D. Another major disappointment on this team but if he takes to the bullpen he could become an unlikely hero in the second half.

Pete Munro- A. He has done what was expected of him. Why did we get rid of him again?

Brad Lidge- A. Yes, he has had some rough spots but overwork can explain many of those. Again, thanks Jimy.

Dan Miceli- B. Overall he has been what we expected. If it wasn't for overwork it might have been an A. See a pattern here?

Mike Gallo- B+. He has been what was expected, but he has extended because of lack of depth. Anyone think he would have a 3.09 ERA?

Dave Weathers- C+. He also has been overworked in his short time here. Weathers used to be among the best setup men in the game. Those days are gone but he can be another Miceli in the second half.

Chad Harville- C+. He has been a good addition and I look for him to get more work in the second half.

Jimy Williams- F-. I couldn't resist on this one. We are in fifth place with a team that should probably be in second at this point. Are the Cards really better than us? Take a look at their pitching staff and get back to me. I'll give the Cubs because they also have great pitching. The Red and Brewers? Can we fire this guy yesterday.

Gerry Hunsicker- A. Thank god he didn't go to New York. Drayton deserves some credit for taking a tiny financial risk, but most of it was Gerry's doing for making the situation palatable. Getting rid of an ineffective Hidalgo and picking up the all-world Beltran are two things no one would have dreamed possible. Pick up a veteran reliever and it becomes an A+.

His offense, defense and bullpen has failed him as much as Jimy. The only real Jimy blame for Oswalt goes back to the very first game of the year when he left him in during the 8th inning against Bonds!

At least Jimy got off to a one-for-one start on the bonehead moves.

Finally, his first HR of the year. Came in a great spot. Maybe now we'll see some of the Ensberg of last year.
