About Us
The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) was formed in 1982 in order to promote the game of baseball, involve former Major League players in community activities, inspire today’s youth through positive sports images and raise funds to support important charitable causes. Alumni members understand that as one of only a few living Major League players, they belong to a select group that has the unique ability to advance and encourage the sport of baseball and the values associated with the game. As a non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization, the MLBPAA is an organization where a player’s drive for excellence and achievement on the field could continue long after he took his last steps off the diamond. Many of the game’s leading players have gravitated to the Alumni Association. Alumni members include Hall of Famers, All-Stars, Cy Young Award winners and Gold Glove Award recipients.
Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, membership in the MLBPAA has climbed to more than 4,800, of which, approximately 2,800 are former Major League players and 1,000 current players are also Alumni members. The remainder of membership is comprised of minor league players, umpires, managers, coaches, front office personnel, media and fans. The MLBPAA President is Brooks Robinson and Vice Presidents include Bob Boone, George Brett, Carl Erskine, Chuck Hinton, Mike Hegan, Al Kaline, Robin Yount and Rusty Staub.
Former Major Leaguers find the Alumni Association to be a vital, constructive instrument in giving back to the game of baseball. The MLBPAA provides players with the proper vehicle to become involved in charitable causes nationwide.
The MLBPAA Board of Directors consists of:
Paul Beeston
Nellie Briles
Darrel Chaney
Denny Doyle
Don Fehr
Jim “Mudcat” Grant
Rich Hand
Jim Hannan, Chairman
Jerry Moses
Ken Sanders
Jose Valdivielso
Fred Valentine, Vice Chairman
The MLBPAA owns two subsidiaries that include Major League Alumni Marketing (MLAM) and Major League Alumni Services (MLAS).
Major League Alumni Marketing (MLAM) is a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of the Alumni Association, formed to engage in any lawful business activity for profit to benefit all former Major League Players and support the operation of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
Major League Alumni Services (MLAS) is also a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of the Alumni Association to originate and administer membership programs and services outside the non-profit framework for the direct benefit of the members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
