Two games today!! Second one's a night game.

This looks like it was a good one. Cabrera's a stud.

I'm worried about Sparky, though. His productions is okay, I guess, but he's not the sparkplug he was at the start of the season. (But he'll always be our Sparky.... :luvkiss: ) I really, really think the whole Hairston thing is in his head. Really. He started falling off when Jerry came back. They're good friends. It's psychological, I tell ya.

BALTIMORE - Javy Lopez had two hits and scored twice, leading the Baltimore Orioles over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4-2 Monday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Luis Matos doubled in the tiebreaking run in the seventh inning to help the Orioles improve to 3-2 in July after going 8-19 in June. Miguel Tejada went 0-for-4, ending his 19-game hitting streak.

Tino Martinez homered for the Devil Rays, who have lost two straight after winning 19 of 23. Tampa Bay managed only four hits off three pitchers.

Baltimore took the lead with a two-run seventh against Dewon Brazelton (2-1). Lopez hit a leadoff double, but the next two batters grounded out. Matos and Tim Raines Jr. followed with consecutive doubles.

B.J. Ryan (3-2) retired all four batters he faced and Jorge Julio worked the ninth for his 12th save. His only two blown saves were against Tampa Bay.

Brazelton permitted only one runner over the first four innings and struck out five of his 13 batters, but Baltimore took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Lopez was hit by a pitch and took third on a double by Larry Bigbie before Jerry Hairston singled in a run. Bigbie scored on a double-play grounder.

Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera held the Devil Rays to one hit through five innings but needed a defensive gem to keep the game scoreless in the second.

After Julio Lugo was credited with a two-out triple when Raines failed to make a diving catch of his sinking liner to right, Cabrera loaded the bases wiyth two walks. Raines then made amends with a fine diving catch of a short line drive by Rey Sanchez.

But the Devil Rays tied it in the sixth. Rocco Baldelli singled and Martinez hit his 13th homer, a two-out drive on a 3-2 pitch. Four of Martinez's five hits against the Orioles this season have been homers.

Cabrera was pulled in the seventh after a two-out double by Sanchez, who was stranded when Ryan retired Carl Crawford on a liner to third.

Notes: The Orioles placed 3B Melvin Mora on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring to make room for second-game starter Dave Borkowski. ... It was Martinez's first homer since June 19. ... Tejada played in his 673rd consecutive game, tying Earl Averill Sr. for the 16th-longest streak in major league history.

 I always liked Averill; nice to see a good guy like Miggy alongside his name! The win also gets the O's out of last place. But I can't believe the "Maz on the hot seat" talk that's already going on. Ridiculous! :hmm:

I know. It is ridiculous. And Angelos can't be that stupid to want Maz out of there. Maz came in without being able to hire his own coaches, he's had to work with young, untried pitchers, and an "ace" who's blown up (in all senses) in our faces, injuries, rain postponements, and all sorts of varied sundries. :hmm:

All that's happened this season is not his fault. :banghead
