Bowa responds to DN column
Larry Bowa was chatty, candid and thoughtful - until the subject of whether he should be fired arose.
A reporter from another media outlet asked the Phillies manager his opinion of a column by Sam Donnellon in yesterday's Daily News that called for firing Bowa.
Mildly, for Bowa, he pointedly discounted the column's merits.
"You've got to consider the source. And I do consider the source," Bowa said. "You've got to be knowledgeable about the game. If it's a guy who doesn't know the difference between the DL and a passed ball?...You come to the park once a year?"
As for defending his injury-challenged team's record this season (41-36 and first place in the National League East as of yesterday), Bowa said, "As a staff, we've done a good job."
Then he resumed being chatty, candid and thoughtful.
