Minor Leagues | Howard hits 32d, but Reading bows

READING - Even Ryan Howard's 32d home run couldn't save the Reading Phillies last night.
The Binghamton Mets coasted to a 7-3 Eastern League win over the Phils behind Matt Peterson's pitching and Prentiss Redman's three-run homer in the first.
Howard hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Phillies and now is just one away from tying Greg Luzinski's franchise record of 33, set in 1971. The first baseman drove in all three Reading runs and now has 84 RBIs in 80 games.
Trenton 8, New Britain 3
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Kevin Reese rapped a pair of doubles to set a single-season Trenton record with 38 as the Thunder topped the Rock Cats in the Eastern League.
Shea Hillenbrand hit 37 doubles for Trenton in 2000.
Aaron Rifkin hit a homer and four RBIs for the Thunder last night.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - George Lombard's pinch-hit double gave the Red Sox an International League victory over the Red Barons.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Mitch Talbot struck out seven in seven innings and teamed with Jonathan Beltre to limit the BlueClaws to three hits as the Legends won a South Atlantic League game.
Wilmington 2, Lynchburg 0
WILMINGTON - Devon Lowery pitched seven scoreless innings and Nate Hoelscher finished the shutout as the Blue Rocks won in the Carolina League.
