"Swing With the Legends"
Golf Series What is your fondest baseball memory? Brooks Robinson making a spectacular stop at third base? Bill Mazeroski's World Series winning home run? Watching Tom Seaver throw a no-hitter?
The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association created the "Swing With the Legends" Golf Series to bring back those memories while raising money for important charitable causes nationwide.
Since 1984, the MLBPAA has staged a series of golf events featuring some of the greatest names to ever play the game. The roster of superstars who have participated in the golf series represent a broad spectrum of Hall of Famers, All-Stars, Gold Glove Award winners, former Major League heroes and characters of the game. Vida Blue, Goose Gossage, Jim "Mudcat" Grant, Ferguson Jenkins, Harmon Killebrew, Phil Niekro, Tug McGraw, Stan Musial, Tom Seaver and many others have contributed time to Alumni events. With this kind of a line-up, it is easy to see why we call the golf series, "Swing With the Legends".
The golf series reaches over 30 communities across the country each year to help raise needed funds for local and national charities as well as the Alumni Association. Since the induction of the golf series in 1984, more than $4.5 million has been raised for a variety of charities. Those benefiting from the "Swing With the Legends" have included: Children's Hospital, American Diabetes, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Cystic Fibrosis, Special Olympics, Leukemia Society of America, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Little League Baseball and many others. These first class events are held at some of the nation's premier golf courses and provide each participant with a fun-filled experience with their favorite baseball stars of yesterday. Activities include a pre-event reception, lunch, round of golf, post-tournament award ceremony and memorabilia auction.
