Brown rocked during Thunder outing
by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com
Yankees pitcher Kevin Brown allowed seven hits and five runs over two innings in a rehab start for the Double-A Trenton Thunder on Thursday. He is on the disabled list due to a back strain and an intestinal parasite. "The next start won't be here,'' manager Joe Torre told the Associated Press. "He was discouraged, to say the least." Brown is expected to make a start at Single-A on Tuesday.

Nah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. He was on a pitch count so that's why he went only two innings. And it's a rehab assignment so the most important thing is that he didn't feel any pain or discomfort. He still needs more time, but I can't wait till he gets back

Right, but like Torre said, it's discouraging for him.
Even though it is just a rehab assignment and not exactly an "important" game, I'm sure he would've liked to have done better than giving up five runs in two innings.

for inconsistency, definitely
but the yankees pitching has incredible talent, if it could stay healthy and aware of the situations (*COUGH* contreras *COUGH*) well I shouldn't say that, he's been good his last couple of starts
but randy johnson would guarantee us some world series games indeed, i'm afraid of what it will be like in the world series with the new additions though. Javier Vazquez isn't one of them though, he's proven to handle himself well in tough situations and has amazing stuff :) but contreras is my main worry... If we make it to the world series, I think too many people would expect too much from the right hander, and we've seen him under pressure before
Mike Mussina: no worries, he's doing great, and he has championship experience...
Lieber I think will do good :D
elllllllllllll duque!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Johnson (assuming we get him), Vazquez and Moose would do very well in the post-season. I'm not 100% sure about Lieber, but I think he'd end up doing pretty good. I don't know about Contreras, though. :hmm: His start last night was wonderful and he's done much better since his family is here, so we'd have to see how he would handle the pressure of a World Series game. Brown will be great, if he just stays healthy.
I really miss Andy Pettitte. :crying2: He was always so reliable and I just loved him.

YES!!! I miss pettitte, he was no sandy koufax, but hell he proved his worth in his *almost* world series shutout last year, if it weren't for boonie... (but he was fun in the ALCS)
Clemens, I don't really want back, ok he was good for a month, went 9-0 or whatever, but he recently got trashed, literally trashed in his all star start.... he's never EVER given up 6 runs in any one inning in postseason, any season...
Lieber just started to come around and I think when he gets in motion, he's amazing... groundballers rule :)
Contreras may have claimed the family had nothing to do with it, but I can remember him saying something about waking up at night and crying because he couldn't see his daughter.. I think overall it's just been inspiration for him... you notice he said it doesn't matter off the mound, once you're on the mound everything's different....
Edit: Brown: I'm going to give him a plastic flexible spine and a sergical tube intestine to prevent anymore DL visits :)

We dont have lefty pitcher in the rotation, I think it would be an advantage if we have at least one lefty. Johnson would be perfect if he lands in NY

Hi skippy :wavey:. Welcome!
Andy's not coming back. He turned down a good offer by the Yanks to go home, and now he's home. And the way his health has been, it's turning out to be a pretty good non-sign by Cashman and Co. We'll miss him in the playoffs sure, but that's life I guess.
The playoff rotation with no RJ would be Brown, Vazquez, Mussina, Lieber/Contreras. If Brown and Mussina are healthy they'll be fine. Javy's still untested in the postseason, but he's pitched in several pressure packed games and pitched well (Opening Day and the April start vs. Pedro comes to mind), so I have confidence that he'll pitch well in the playoffs. Who the heck knows with Lieber and Contreras. When Liebs is on he's good, but when he's off he's really bad. And Contreras has choked so much this year that I have very little confidence in him, although his last few starts have been promising.
What would be great is if someone steps up and pitches like Pettitte did last year in the playoffs. I could see Brown being that Ace, assuming he's healthy.
But if we get Johnson, the postseason rotation goes from okay to oh-my-god. That said, we still don't need him, because our offense can make up for an okay rotation.

hey milky way, thanks for the welcome ;)
I realize Andy Pettitte won't come back, but I can dream can't I? ;) :)
I think we needed Randy Johnson in the beginning of the year when the Yanks looked like the Expos of New York, with so many question marks about the completely new rotation after it seemed we lost everything... Nobody has mentioned David Wells!! He was a great lefty starter, not to mention he also has some history like Pettitte, (perfect game...) :) I think someone like David Wells (but a little better built :evillol:) would be good for the rotation... not necessarily Randy Johnson

Boomer...ugh. I think the Yanks' back is still sore from the knife Wells put in it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Cashman pulls off one of those "Where the hell did that come from?" trades, ala the Justice trade, for some starter who's off the media's radar right now. Although I admit Halsey NOT being called up has me wondering...perhaps Graman was called up because Halsey won't be a Yankee on Sunday...http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/cwm/cwm/erm.gif

Letterman and Leno had some fun with that a couple nights ago.
Dave said that he hasn't seen somebody take a beating like that since Liza Minnelli's husband. :D
Jay said he's seen piñatas receive less of a beating than Clemen's did. :rolling

I don't think the Orioles pitching rotation has had that bad of an inning like that for a while :rolling :evillol:
