Mike Maroth really stuck it to the Yankees tonight, pitching a complete game shutout while allowing only one hit to win 8-0. Maroth's only other complete game came in a 4-3 loss to KC a couple years back. It was the second complete game shutout in the last three games for the Tigers.

Things are looking pretty darn good for the Tigers lately. With Jason Johnson and Mike Maroth both pitching great, we may be able to make this division race one for the ages. On a sadder note, pitcher Nate Cornejo is expected to undergo season-ending surgery some time soon. Get well soon, Nate. You'll get 'em next year.

Maroth was very good. It's nice to see him do so well after last year's nightmare.

The Tigers took the season series from the Yanks today with a 4-2 win at Comerica Park. The Yanks leave town with a series split, but lose the season series to the Tigers 4-3. Taking two out of four from the Yankees is not a bad way to start the second half. Now we've got to be strong against the Twins and the White Sox, whom we play many times over the course of the second half. Nate got back on the winning ticket with his eight strong innings today, and Urbina held down the fort for his 15th save in sixteen chances. Pena and Munson stepped it up with three hits apiece.
